LIPA - National Grid - LILCO - whatever they call themselves doesn't hide the fact that these energy monopoly conglomerates employ incompetent losers who only work there because normal companies that compete for business every day would never, ever, hire them.

National Grid scores a negative number with me! I'm using a lot less electricity but paying a lot more. They want us to conserve, but when we do, they raise the rates because they are not making enought money. And, the politicians can't understand why our children are leaving the Island. No, Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore.

The Fix is in & the second greatest rate payer rip-off is about to begin

National Greed is performing poorly? We supply the fuel, pay for the manpower and give them what they want. Why are they falling? Are they falling on purpose? Is the poor performance just another reason for LIPA to purchase National Greed fossil fuel plants?

National Grid and LIPA both wants LIPA to buy and convert National Greed waist oil plants to gas plants. This way National Greed controls prices, does not have to modernize their plants and LIPA patronage grows tremendously.

LIPA $7 Billion LILCO buyout debt should have been paid off by now. However, LIPA debt is still $7 Billion. Add $4 Billion to buy, clean up, decommission and retrofit National Grid plants and we could be looking at an eternal debt of $11 Billion. Such debt is unfair to ratepayers and dangerous. If LIPA continues increasing its debt the Authority could become over extended and unable to borrow when necessary.

LIPA is an Authority. It can do what it wants. LIPA should demand a new contract that requires National Grid to:
Produce a specific amount of energy per barrel of oil or per therm of gas
Meet air quality standards.
Retro fit their plants.
If not, LIPA should condemn the plants and buy them at a fair price and sell them to a provider that will
Produce a specific amount of energy per barrel of oil or per therm of gas
Meet air quality standards.
Retro fit their plants..

Who is LIPA kidding, they've failed their customers since their creation. We need some kind of competition on the island. Why is Con-Ed so much cheaper?

LIPA and National Greed (love that one) are two of the most awfully run utilties in the modern world. Being monopolies, poorly run monopolies at that, they mercilessly soak us with the highest energy costs in the 48 domestic states (check the stats, its true). With each new CEO (Law being the latest liar), they complain how their hands are tied, prior management lead Lilco into Shoreham and forced it into borrowing heavily.

Try cutting your consumption and they keep your bill at the same level. You can't win.

Finally, Excel Energy had a 11% rate decrease in December for consumers in the Denver area, citing lower energy costs. Why does it take our infamous LIPA until May, and then we only see a 3.2% reduction? So we're flat from last year's $145/bbl oil? Wait, oil is stabilizing at $50/bbl today... Did Lipa buy huge supplies at the high prices? If so, fire Law and the rest of the overpaid, over-bonused prima donas.

Last I checked, CON ED was not at all cheaper when compared Kwh to Kwh charges.

LIPA and CON ED are both among the worst run utilities in the country (save CON ED's healthy stock dividend).

Nothing will change unless we wake up the legislature and FORCE them to make LIPA more accountable to the ratepayers.

As an 'authority', LIPA makes hundreds of millions in profit off the backs of ratepayers and escape oversight. They need to be reorganized so that ratepayer representatives sit on the board of directors and have access to all financial information, contracts, salary, consultant information etc.

BTW, other utility companies around the country do NOT operate like LIPA (I've lived in ME, VA, and FL).

Agreed! I love the pamphlets they send with the bills about making our homes more energy efficient & then they charge us more for doing so.

I haven't believed a word LIPA (LILCO) has said since 1973 when we had an "energy crisis". If we didn't cut back, there would be brown outs and black outs (oh my). When everyone cut back, LILCO went crying to the state energy commission that they were losing $ and had to raise their rates. The commission rolled over and played dead and let them do it.
BTW....are you aware that the state created a new energy commission and put RIchie Kessel in charge? Are you aware that LIPA signed an agreement to put X amount of $s in the new commission's pocket? And you thought you had gotten rid of Kessel! HA! He still has his vacuum cleaner in your wallet!

Stop the whining day and night it goes on.Its everywhere on Long Island, the whole of our lives is working to pay to survive the total greed of others.
This fall the schools will squeeze us again, the townships will join in and the State next and of course the Federal government will outdo them all.
We are all victims of others feeding at the trough,a great big legal Ponzi scheme, where everyone is paid with others money. Will a school board ever say we can manage with a little less, will my town ever say we can manage OK with no increase and will LIPA say we will hold rates down as a guesture and of course will the State join in.
We know the answer do we not.

I, for one, can't figure out why my LIPA bills are so high. I live in a 900 sq. foot condo.(1 bedroom) I do have a finished basement, but the lights are never on down there unless I have to go down there to do wash, which is generally once or twice a week. During the day, I usually have the kitchen light on (a flourescent light) and at night at dinner, I have a chandelier on over my table. After dinner, I turn off the chandelier and only put two 60 watt bulb lamps on in my living room. During the summer, I usually only put the central air on around 4:00pm and then turn it off when I go to bed. I also live alone. My average bill is $200 per month. How can this be?

I live in a one-floor Levit with 4 rooms. We unfortunately have an electric burner to heat the hot water, which runs through the baseboards. We have CFL bulbs throughout the house, even in high hats and outside bug lights.
Every appliance that can be Energy Star certified is. We leave the AC off in on summer nights.
Our "balanced budget" bill:
$440 per month.

We are supposed to have a "special rate" since we are all electric.
I am not feeling that special about it.

You are right. We truly are harvested for our hard earned money. The sad part is we don't have the pay scale or pensions of those we are supporting.

I would like to know who is the brain surgeon in this post 911 apocalyptic world that thought turning the Northeastern Gas/Electric Infrastructure over to a foreign power (The British) was a good idea? Maybe we can auction off the NYC Reservoir system to the Saudis or possibly the Pakastanis and perhaps we can have the Muslim world come in and take control over our police infrastructural systems being that we have a President going around the planet kissing MUSLIM BEHINDS and apologizing for being Americans and not living under rocks and cooking camel over barbecue dung pits.GOD BLESS AMERICA NOW GET YOUR COPY OF THE KORAN BARACKUM HUSSEIN OBAMA-NATION!

It's actually easy to explain.. you see, you live on LI, where we have the most expensive utilities and energy costs in the modern world.

And you're not just paying for energy, but you're funding LIPA execs excessive bonus' and paying for numerous years of poor and bumbling management. So, even with low energy consumption, you're getting soaked.
