The Savage scam clan
The FBI says an Illinois man accused of impersonating a Canadian deputy health minister as part of a fraud scheme has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft charges.
Howard Leventhal, 56, of Long Grove, Ill., was accused of trying to defraud a number of individuals and entities of millions of dollars by falsely claiming his company, Neovision, had a lucrative contract with the Canadian Health Department.
Leventhal pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory two-year term of imprisonment, for stealing the identity of Glenda Yeates.
When sentenced on April 3, 2014, Leventhal faces up to 22 years in prison,$1,050,819.78 in forfeiture and restitution, and a fine of more than $2 million.
Tablet named after Star Trek's Dr. Leonard McCoy
Court in Brooklyn, N.Y. heard Leventhal told potential investors Neovision had written agreements with Health Canada, whereby Neovision would provide Health Canada with Heltheo's McCoy Home Health Tablet.
The device — named after the fictional Dr. Leonard McCoy of TV's Star Trek series — purportedly delivers instantaneous and detailed patient data to physicians and other licensed health-care providers.
Prosecutors alleged earlier this year that Leventhal scammed Paragon Financial Group for $800,000 by claiming it could collect money he said Health Canada owed to his company.
Leventhal also used the purported agreement with Health Canada to solicit more than $25 million from other potential investors, including an undercover law enforcement agent. RCMP allege Leventhal tried to get a $2.5-million line of credit from TD Bank in Toronto in July.
"In Leventhal's world, the truth was cloaked by his web of lies and impersonation. Within this alternate reality, Leventhal marketed non-existent technology, fabricated an online presence, and impersonated a government official, all to defraud investors out of very real money," said United States Attorney Loretta Lynch in a statement.
"His actions were the stuff of fantasy and science fiction, valid only in another dimension."

The Blow' em up sky high Druggie clan
A pair of teen sweethearts have been rushed to hospital after an experiment to make their marijuana stash more potent ended in a fiery explosion, police said.
Anthony Gambale, 19, and Gabriella Katanov, 17, were critically injured with second- and third-degree burns in the blast that took place inside a Marine Parkway garage in Brooklyn, early Tuesday.
The couple were trying to make what's called 'ear wax' marijuana - a version 80 per cent stronger than usual pot and highly hallucinatory - by soaking the drug in butane.
However, as they were evaporating off the gas, one of them lit a cigarette and the garage went up in flames.
According to the New York Daily News, the explosion rocked the sleeping residential neighborhood and residents could hear the pair begging for help.
'We could see the flames and hear people yelling for help,' next-door neighbor Pat Doyle told the Daily News.
Gambale and Katanov are both in serious condition at Staten Island University Hospital.
'Their lungs are good... but from the waist up, all burned,' the girl's devastated mother, Luba Poukhova, told the Daily News.
Her hands, too. She could be in the hospital for a year. She needs surgery. The doctors said it will get worse every day.'
Poukhova said her daughter attended Rachel Carson High School and had been dating Gambale, a friend since childhood, for around seven months.
On Monday night, Gabriella went out about 8 p.m., promising to be home by 11 p.m., the mother told the Daily News.
Police said the couple were trying to make the extremely powerful form of marijuana, known as 'ear wax,' for its yellowish color and gooey consistency. Gambale and Katanov had filled a blue 30-gallon tub with cannabis and covered it in butane, according to police.
Officers also found pot plants, plastic storage containers, plastic tabs, coffee filters and glass pans on the premises.
Drug charges are pending for the teens.
Also nicknamed 'dabs,''honey oil,' or 'butter,' the turbo-charged high is far stronger than normal pot and has become a growing problem in parts of the country, according to drug addiction specialists.
'The symptoms of wax, dabs, or butter include psychotic breaks, having hallucinations, seeing things that are not there, hearing things that are not there, having tactile sensations like something's crawling under my skin,' Jon Daily, the founder of Recovery Happens Counseling Services, told KCRA.com last month.
He added:'It's much more addictive. I think there's going to be psychological ramifications to come. I think we're going to see more psychosis with it, more anxiety with it. We're going to see more sleep problems with it.'
Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the drug in marijuana that induces a high. While pot contains roughly 20 per cent THC, ear wax can contain up to 90 per cent of it.

The savage baseball bat clan
A teenager has been charged with murdering his mother after she was found with a kitchen knife sticking out of her eye socket in her Florida home.
Sharon Aydelott was found dead on Christmas Eve in her home in Gulf Breeze, Fla., having been stabbed multiple times, beaten with a baseball bat and had her throat slashed, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.
When the investigators arrived, they found the front door smeared with blood and Aydelott’s body lying just inside.
William Brandon Aydelott, the victim’s 17-year-old son, was found at a nearby house three hours later, the NWF Daily News reports. His clothing was clean, but police found a spot of dried blood on his wrist.
He calmly confessed to the murder when police questioned him, according to the NWF Daily News.
The teenager had moved out after his relationship with his mother broke down in September.
The victim was a science teacher at nearby Holley-Navarre Middle School, where she had been working since 1998.
“It’s just heartbreaking for the family. You just wonder what’s in a young person’s mind to do something like that,” Loree Rhodes, a neighbor, told Fox 10 TV.
“It just shows the state of our times I guess. There’s so much violence and that’s sad too,” she said.

The Savage Knockout game
WASHINGTON — A Texas man has been charged with a federal hate crime for allegedly breaking a 79-year-old man’s jaw in what authorities described as a racist take on the “knockout game.”
Conrad Barrett, 27, was arrested after he boasted of the sucker-punch while at a bar and showed cellphone video of the attack to a fellow patron who turned out to be an off-duty cop.
Barrett stalked the victim as the other man exited his car in a residential area in Katy, Texas, on Nov. 24, authorities said.
Video of the attack, according to authorities, shows Barrett approach his victim and ask him:“How’s it going, man?” before clocking him.
The victim, who is black, fell to the ground, and Barrett ran away laughing, authorities said.
Barrett, who is white, had also saved on his phone videos in which he used a racist epithet and asserted that black people “haven’t fully experienced the blessing of evolution,” according to the charging affidavit.
In another clip saved to his phone, Barrett stated:“The plan is to see if I were to hit a black person, would this be nationally televised?”
And in more video footage shot before the Nov. 24 attack, Barrett drives a car around a shopping mall parking lot and says that he’s trying to work up the “courage” to play the “knockout game.”
Yet another video from his phone documents Barrett announcing that he has “found the perfect African-American suspect,” but he then appeared to change his mind, according to the affidavit.
In the devilish “game,” goons attack innocent strangers at random in public, attempting to knock them out with a single punch. A recent spate of such attacks, which are often videotaped on smartphones, have led to a stream of press coverage, but federal prosecutors say that the twisted practice has been documented as far back as 1992 under various names.
In announcing the charges against Barrett, acting U.S. Assistant Attorney General Jocelyn Samuels said the U.S. Department of Justice would work with partners “to ensure that hate crimes are identified and prosecuted, and that justice is done.”
After Barrett showed the video to the off-duty cop, who works as an arson investigator, the lawman left the bar and alerted a police officer nearby, who then confronted Barrett and confiscated his phone.
The victim did not initially file a criminal complaint, police said. Officers recognized the neighborhood in the video and canvassed it. Neighbors led police to the victim, whose relatives then filed a formal report with police.
Barrett was charged Tuesday with violating the federal Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Barrett’s arrest affidavit was unsealed Thursday when he appeared before a federal magistrate. He is due back in court Friday for a detention hearing.

The Rampaging Shotgun Murdering Savage of Louisiana
A Louisiana man went on a bloody rampage Thursday, killing his wife, the head of a hospital where he once worked and his former mother-in-law — the wife of a local councilman — before fatally turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
Ben Edward Freeman, 38, began his deadly shooting spree when he burst into a home in the town of Lockport about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans and shot Lafourche Parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux and his wife, Susan, shortly before 7 p.m., authorities said.
Freeman also wounded the councilman's daughter, Andrea Gouaux - the sister of the gunman's ex-wife - in the shooting, police said.
Susan (Pixie) Gouaux died before emergency workers arrived, but her husband and daughter survived. Both were listed in critical condition at University Hospital.
About 20 minutes after the violence, Freeman allegedly went to a Raceland home and shot Milton Bourgeois, the CEO of Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital.
Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brennan Matherne said in a statement that Bourgeois was fatally shot. His wife, Ann Bourgeois, was also hit, but she survived, Matherne said.
Police soon identified Freeman as the shooter and swarmed his Houma home, where they found his wife — Denise Freeman — dead in a bathtub. Her cause of death was not immediately released.
The couple had a history of domestic violence, and courts had issued at least two protective orders, the most recent expiring last month, WDSU reported.
The news station also reported that Ben Freeman was ordered to have supervised visits with his children.
Freeman — who had worked at three area hospitals over the last few years, including the facility operated by Bourgeois — was found dead in a vehicle pulled over along U.S. Highway 90 near Bayou Blue, police said.
He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said a shotgun was used in all of the shootings.

The Savage Trailor Park Tramp
Pasco County deputies arrested a 46-year-old woman Tuesday saying she became violent with her husband.
A deputy stopped at a light on U.S. 19 in Port Richey said he saw Jennifer Lee and her 68-year-old husband, Benjamin, yelling at each other in their car.
He says he then saw Lee grab her husband's hair, yank his head, and pull his face towards her.
After approaching the car, the deputy made sure the man was not harmed and then asked about the fight.
The arrest report says the couple was at a nearby Beef O'Brady's restaurant, where his wife drank alcohol.
On their way home, she demanded to play miniature golf.
When Benjamin refused, deputies say Jennifer became angry and attacked him.
The report states Benjamin said it was not unusual for his wife to behave this way.
The deputy arrested Jennifer.
She faces a domestic battery charge.

The Dirty Deputy Clan
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating two of its own.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis says two deputies are accused of stealing money. He held a news conference on Friday morning to announce the results of two separate investigations.
Both men -- a deputy and a sergeant -- have been charged, resigned and turned themselves in.
Here's what the Sheriff says their investigations found:
Deputy Mike Glatfelter is charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud. As treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police in this area for several years, he's accused of taking about $14,000 from the group for personal use... including swiping funds meant for the family of Scott Bierwiler, who was killed in the line of duty.
In a separate case, Sgt. Joseph Reid is accused of using money intended for vice operations for personal use. He too, is charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud.
Sheriff Nienhuis says the actions of these two men leave him deeply disappointed.
Cases like these tarnish the badge, and the Sheriff wants the public to know that if people in his department are committing crimes, they will be brought to justice.

KINGMAN, Ariz.-- A Golden Valley woman and her boyfriend were arrested on various charges Wednesday after the Mohave County Sheriff's Office received a report that she stole her children's Christmas money.
About 2:20 p.m., deputies responded to a theft report at a home on the 4300 block of Roosevelt Street in Kingman.
Deputies contacted two people at the home who said they had given $10 to each of their four grandchildren for Christmas.
The grandparents said the children's mother, Amanda Sue Rick, 31, had taken $30 from the three youngest children.
Rick reportedly stopped by the home for a while with her boyfriend, Cruz Alberto Ruvalcaba, 29, also of Golden Valley, and the couple left on foot.
Deputies learned the children are in their father's custody.
They located Rick and Ruvalcaba in the 4200 block of Roosevelt Street, and found that both had outstanding warrants issued by Kingman Municipal Court.
Rick and Ruvalcaba were taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of syringes, according to the sheriff's office.
Rick reportedly told deputies the children gave her the money so she could get a motel room.
She was arrested for four misdemeanor warrants and charges of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation, and three failures to pay fines.
Ruvalcaba was arrested for two misdemeanor warrants and charges of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation, and a failure to pay fines.

The Savage Domestic Terrorist clan
After a daylong search and pursuit on Thursday, Torrance police fatally shot a man suspected of setting fire to his mother’s home and to an apartment where his 2-year-old son was left to burn, according to police.
Police confirmed that Asa James Dolak, 19, was shot dead at Madrona Middle School by patrol officers who had chased him briefly on foot.
He was bleeding and armed with a knife, police said.
The initial fire that prompted the search for Dolak occurred at an apartment complex in the 16700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard at about 12:15 a.m.
Dolak allegedly broke into his former girlfriend’s apartment and threatened to kill her with a knife, according to Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt.
When the girlfriend ran out of the apartment to get help, Dolak allegedly started the fire and fled, leaving the couple’s 2-year-old son inside “to burn to death,” Watt said.
The boy was rescued from the home by firefighters and transported to an area hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation. He was listed in stable condition, Watt said.
Dolak fled the scene and was threatening people nearby, according to Torrance police. He then allegedly set a fire at his mother’s home in the 3200 block of Opal Avenue at about 2 a.m., authorities said.
No injuries were reported in the second fire. After that incident, officers contacted Dolak, who said by phone that he planned to kill his family and would kill police as well, Watt said.
He was a “danger to the public, a danger to the family, and a danger to the officers,” Watt said.
Officers were “scouring the area” for Dolak by going door to door, Watt said, when a man matching his description was found Thursday afternoon in a woman’s restroom at Madrona Middle School, near the Opal Avenue home. It was there that Dolak was seen bloody and with a knife.
After a foot pursuit,“an officer-involved shooting ensued; the suspect, Mr. Dolak, was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m.,” Watt said at a news conference at 3:30 p.m.
“I don’t know what happened on the confrontation between officers and Mr. Dolak, but apparently it turned into deadly force,” Watt said.
Aerial video showed Dolak’s body in a field cordoned off with caution tape; many police officials were nearby. The school was closed for the Christmas holiday, Watt said.
The police investigation was continuing. Detectives had been in contact with Dolak’s mother, Watt said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office was also investigating.
