I generally recall PD's backing their officers when something like this occurs. I don't recall the NYPD doing anything to back this guy. In fact, they threw him under the bus.
I really think this guy was a good cop, trying to do a tough job.
Is she justified in sueing? Not sure.

The PO committed suicide after making a tactical error at work causing the death of a mentally ill civilian. The administration covering their own necks publicly chastised the man precipitating his depresssion [a mental illness] that led him to suicide. They stand by their drunk driving civilian killing comrads better than aN honest public mistake caught on camera.

tactical error?

Yeah and drunk driving is just a mistake.

The pig broke the law and offed himself, the wife probably drove him over the edge.

If you're replying to post #7, perhaps you should go back and re-read it. Your reply makes no sense.

The actions of the NYPD hierarchy were disgraceful in this case. Talk about a rush to judgment! He was a good man and a good cop who served New York City honorably for over 20 years. My sympathy and condolences to Lt. Pigott's widow and children.

This cop killed himself because he committed what is considered a cardinal -sin- in most Pd's.

He went before the public and told the truth by admitting he messed up....even worse in the eyes of other cops, is that he apologized after admitting he messed up.

Cops dont apologize...it's a sign of weakness. That's the main reason he was thrown to the wolves.

Clearly Pigott was a loose cannon with some issues. He did wrong and he knew it.

His wife is ust looking for a payday.

Sue the city for what?

Employing an emotionally ubstable jackass who shouldn't have been a cop in the first place?

I hope she loses.

Like the contents of this woman's lawsuit.

This lawsuit is an embarrassment to the rank and file.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aquarius

Keep calm and all will be well. You're feeling slightly fraught because there are so many demands on your time, and it won't help if you're trying to juggle some last-minute chores with some fun-filled social events. Get others to lend you a hand, or tell yourself that perfection is not an option right now and that you'll have to scale down your preparations accordingly.
