JETS 4 LIFEFORD, N.J.-- The New York Giants are giving wide receiver Victor Cruz's bruised left heel a little extra medical attention.....
Cruz bruised the heel Sunday night trying to catch a long pass from Manning on the opening series. It was a jump ball type of play, and one of the defenders came down on his foot. It immediately went numb.
The Giants have told him his status is day to day, but it looked more week to week with crutches and a boot.....
The 26-year-old hopes to shed the crutches soon. He is being treated with ice and medication to reduce the swelling. He added he doesn't think the injury will linger all season.....
Cruz didn't think his injury was serious when it happened because he did not hear anything pop. He even stayed on the field for one more play before going to the bench.
An MRI showed some blood in the heel. There was no muscle tear and no broken bones, Cruz said, adding he expects to play in the opener.

oh well..injuries part of the game...just come back healthy..wait it out...nicks came back early last year and was a shell of himself...

Yeah that's the most important thing...... I hated to see Nicks struggling last year because we all know what he can do when he's healthy..... Cruz will be ready week 1 in Jerrys World lol....

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.-- The New York Giants lost their second starting offensive lineman this week, with David Diehl set to undergo surgery to repair his right thumb that will sideline him approximately six weeks, the team said.

Diehl practiced with a cast on his hand Tuesday and thought he would be able to play through the injury. But the veteran underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning, and it was determined he needed surgery.

The Giants said the surgery repaired an "unstable right thumb." A source said Diehl has a capsule injury that is being repaired so he can return at full strength later in the season.

"Dave's injury is a tough one," offensive lineman Kevin Boothe said. "If anybody can play through it, Dave can. For it to be that significant, it is something that needed attention now.

"We will regroup. We have had experience with guys going down. We will respond."

The Giants just shuffled their offensive line after losing starting center David Baas to a left MCL injury during Sunday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Baas hopes to be back for the season opener, but he could be out for several weeks as the team will evaluate him on a weekly basis.

On Tuesday, the Giants moved Boothe from left guard to center and slid Diehl over from right tackle to left guard. First-round pick Justin Pugh was inserted into the starting lineup at right tackle.

The initial thought was that Diehl would be able to play through the pain in his right thumb.

Diehl said there was nothing broken in his hand, and coach Tom Coughlin even assumed the veteran would be able to play through the injury since Diehl has battled through many injuries before.

"The doctor felt like he really needed to have his thumb corrected so he can go forward," Coughlin said after practice. "He has been in a lot of pain, he's a tough guy and you would never even know it. He will get this fixed and he will be back."

But with Diehl out for more than a month, the Giants will have to reshuffle the line again. During practice on Wednesday, the Giants used backup Jim Cordle at center and moved Boothe back to left guard while keeping Pugh at right tackle.

James Brewer perhaps could be used as the extra lineman in jumbo packages and the backup tackle. Cordle came in for Baas when the starting center went down on the first series against the Colts on Sunday night.

"Cordle played very well the other night, and we thought that was the best move for now," Coughlin said. "For now the option we took is this one."

Another option for Coughlin to consider is to move Brewer in at left guard for Diehl and move Boothe to center. Brewer had been working with the first team early in camp at right guard while Chris Snee made his way off the physically unable to perform list.

Either way, the Giants likely will open the season with two starters on the offensive line with no previous starting experience if Baas and Diehl are not back.

"It's time to go figure it out," Coughlin said. "We have two [preseason] games to play."

I'm hoping the Jets defense is really really good because if they're not we're in for a long year, minus the first play we have 98 total yards at the half and most came on questionable defensive penalties. Not good not good at all.

We lost to a team that started it's 3rd string QB and used the 4th string QB for most of the remainder of the game yet they threw for 381 yards to our 183. After an 84 yard TD run to start the game which won't happen again in a million years we gained another 55 on the ground. Looks like a very very long year for us.

I know the Giants offense doesn't look good, but it's only preseason..... We all know they will be ready for the sweason.... One more preseason game and I don't think any of the starters will be in there....

Damn.... I was wrong about Brown.... At first they said he waa a sprained knee.....

Given the way Stevie Brown crumpled to the turf Saturday night after picking off a Geno Smith
pass, the Giants knew their starting safety might have suffered a serious injury. Those fears
were confirmed Sunday. Brown tore his ACL in New York’s third exhibition, a significant blow to
a secondary that underachieved in 2012. Brown reportedly was placed on injured reserve,
ending his season.

Brown, a 2010 seventh-round pick by Oakland, came out of
nowhere last season to claim a huge role on the Giants’
defense. He picked off eight passes (second most in the NFL)
and led the league with 307 INT-return yards. New York re-
signed Brown as a restricted free agent this offseason and
expected him to start again at safety, alongside Antrell Rolle.

Dumb preseason.... They wonder why the players hate those games and sometimes avoid them....

Its going to take a mighty effort for Giants to win East this year. Defensive line has improved, but every where else is question marks.

Are the Jets Quarterbacks and receivers that good or is the Giant linebackers and secondary that bad ? Is the Jets defense that good or is the Giants offense that bad ? These are the questions that will be answered soon enough.

Looks like we have the worst secondary, linebacking corp and run defense in the NFL, again. Maybe Reese should wake up and stop drafting bum QBs and other rubbage.

I'm sorry to say this and all due respect to Tim Coughlin, but why are you playing your starters in a the 4th preseason game?... That's something Rex would do...... Terrible decision.....

Andre Brown is out 4-6 weeks with a leg fracture he sustained in the 1 quater.... His expected return is mid October.... Wilson now will carry the load for now......

They played like crap the entire preseason on offense, secondly injuries are part of a sport that is full contact. Every play a player is at risk, the situation with Sanchez is unfortunate because he was playing in 4th quarter with the scrubs,to try to compare Coughlin to Ryan is unfair when clearly Tom was trying to get some continuity with an offense that has struggled the entire preseason, furthermore Andre was running behind the ones at the time of injury.

' A mighty effort to win the east'? You're kidding right ? It will take other teams folding just for them to sniff the playoffs, win the east ? You're a funny guy.

a lot of teams play regs for 10-15 snaps...not unusual. no way is tom a low class rex. at all

as for brown, he is just showing how injury prone he is...he got a helmet on the leg...it will happen during the year. running backs have the shortest life span

was chatting with a giant fan the other day...in 07 they were terrible in the preseason, lost the first 2 games by 98 points? or had that scored on them...

they came back and won game 3 on a 4th and goal line stand and won the super bowl

never count them out...if cruz and nicks healthy and the d line...they will be fine

new kicker is much better length wise the tynes...specials look better, some fast and good youth made this team and they just might do well.

rex put in "boy sanchise" with the 4th string. he was asking for injury and rex wanted "boy sanchise" to do good against the gmen 4th string and win the game..for him, it was important to beat the giants

tom, wanted his offense to do good. they had struggled during preseason and brown was in with the number 1 offense...and it was not about tom beating the pats...it was getting work in, something they did not have much of

huge difference..rex wanted to stuff it to the gmen and win..and put in the baby with 4th stringers...tom wanted some work...not about winning..and brown is injury prone..he will be back.

tom is a 2 time super bowl winning head coach. rex is a blustering liar who won't win a super bowl ever as a head coach.

Lol wait a minute, who compared the two in the first place?... I didn't.... All I said was that's something Rex would do which is a jab at Rex not Tom......

Rex is an idiot and anything he does doesn't surprise me at all.... To much emphasis is put on preseason and I'm guarantee you the Giants will be a completely different team when the season starts..... It's not how you start it's how you finish.....
