Operations officially ceased on July 7th at Anchor/Mystic. Lenny was there until the last day. I don't think he ever spent a day in prison for the crimes he committed. After July 7th they started to liquidate the fleet. Ferrara Bros. bought 9 units to keep themselves supplied but opened a new company called A.C.T.(Aggregate,& cement transport) Rumor has it that Robert Baldari was hired to run the company along with Greg Bowen as his dispatcher/assistant. They took 9 of there favorite Astoria drivers there with them (the ones who polish there trucks) to work for the same money with less medical benefits & convinced most of them that it would benefit them NOT to join Local 282, so now they are non-union. So they are still getting paid straight time,@$26.25 an hour, have medical but no dental coverage, and they're not all working every day. They have picked up work delivering to Best Concrete, & some work to Jenna Concrete, but nothing like they use to have.
ESF bought some of the older trailers & threw a sticker on them,& also some of the old oil trailers. Funny how that happened since Joe Laforgia who was the owner of ESF (The old Empire State Fuel) was also the one who ratted Lenny out to the feds. I wonder if they made up?
Kings Ready Mix bought some trailers too & were paying $27. an hour, 45 hours on the books & the rest in cash. No o/t & no benefits.
Empire Transit Mix bought some old, raggedy trailers that were still in better shape than the ones they had.
Jenna bought some tractors & trailers & actually hired some guys from Anchor & did the right thing & put them into Local 282.
Greco has some of the newer trailers delivering to them with brand new Peterbuilt tractors pulling them that have the name "Mountain Man" on there sides.
Casa was partnering with someone to buy 4 units to keep themselves & City Transit mix supplied.
That is the extent of my knowledge of the cement division. Everything else was liquidated or is still being liquidated. I'll check back from time to time to give some more updates when I find out any new news.

since 2007? how about since the early 1990s! Mystic was the major, if not the exclusive transporter for lilco / LIPA. millions of gallons delivered all over long island, which then made not only every boiler and furnace, but every powerplant a toxic waste incinerator. some of this oil came from Mytic/lenny owned western nassau terminals in new hyde park.
If you read the article it says that two people from a 2007 federal case who plead guilty provided evidence. That would be Lenny & Mike. Lilco & Lipa always got fresh/virgin oil or kerosene for there power plants. They don't burn #4 or #6 oil.

except for when cross drop gasoline-diesel mix was substituted and
Lipa's load was sold for cash to his friends and former landscapers that have a COD 2 oil business in Huntington

Trust me on this one abc. The money that cross drop cost the company was probably not even close to offset by the cash he got for the fresh load, & LIPA could easily burn that contaminated mix without anymore pollution than a fresh load. It really was a way to not pay more money to get rid of the cross dropped products.

Very true, but it was still illegal and would have cost them the contract if he had been caught at it

That is true. He would have lost the contract. I just know that it is on the lower spectrum of illegal & unethical shit that went on there. After all of that cheating & stealing, all of those years, the worst thieving was done to his own employees. I worked there for many years & put up with all of their crap so I have no one to blame but myself. It just seemed easier to stay & deal with it than start over. Look where that got me. Unemployed with no leads on a place to start over. Oh well. I'll find something soon enough & i'm sure it wont be as bad there.

Anyone know if Lenny ever got any time at all? I drove past the Astoria yard a short time ago & saw him walking past all of his unlabeled equipment, so he's still walking free, albeit through a yard full of skeletons. I hope one day he winds up as poor as I am!

Lots of ex employees were screwed over big time, me included
You aren't alone. His ego got the best of him, every illegal scheme that he didn't get caught at led to another bigger one
but the obsessive spending never stopped so he never got ahead
I hear he's telling everyone he closed it down because he wanted to retire. Bullshit, he wasted Marty's money until the plug got pulled instead of running it like a real business.

Lenny did his typical (Buy shiny new equipment and the customers will come) bit. This time it didn't work. He bought about 3 dozen food grade trailers (at least a dozen were brand new) and completely stripped & re-equipt them. New Dura-Brite wheels & brand new tires on at least 20 used trailers. That's gotta be at least $30-35K before the trailers ever left the yard for a load. When they did leave the yard they weren't out there for long. Out of the 36 or so trailers only about 6-8 were used daily, & the jumbo sized new trailers never left the yard!! The contracts were cancelled or never materialized as planned. The Astoria yard was like a grave yard for freshly painted, unused trailers. As for me, I got screwed over just like the rest of the guys. But I knew what was going on so I have no one to blame but myself. I just didn't want to have to start over. Crappy days off, nights, low man on the totem pole. Who the hell wanted to deal with that?! Well I started over. Luckily, in the vacuum that was created I found a good job with another company, so it worked out good for me. I really feel bad for some of the guys. A lot of them are still unemployed.

It could be typical any nationality. Marty Rosen who owned Stuyversant oil didn't want to stay in business for too long after Lenny & Tonino got busted. I wonder why?! Then he magically appears at Anchor with a $10,000,000 dollar check to "help" Lenny out. Sounds like he didn't want Lenny to squeal on him too. Selling #4 & #6 oil at 90 degrees but actually heating it up to about 135 degrees is also skimming! By the way, Marty Rosen is Jewish, not Italian, & he was running one of the top 3 oil terminals in NYC. The biggest rip off was he was selling #2 oil at the daily temperature while also heating that up to well past 100 degrees. It's no wonder Lenny & Tonino had their meters kicked. They would have gone broke if they didn't. Of course they abused the skim more than average & greed brought them down. AMEN!!!
