I find this story to be a surprise. I am employed by one of the Select Specialty Hospitals and was not aware of such complaint. It is very enlightening and explains several situations which has occured on the local level which I am not at liberty to speak about at present time.

ALL Select Specialty Hospitals will continue this unfair practice of WRONGFUL TERMINATION and RACIAL DISCRIMINATION UNLESS we continue to fight for what is going on against not only us as human beings in this country but ALSO us as employees that have been victimized by this company. There will come a day SOON when we can get the message to ALL Select employees that this has occured agaisnt and stand together in a court and hold them accountable for all their wrong doings. Stay strong in your search for justice not only for us but for the many others that have gone and will go through these things. Its time to make a change and let Select KNOW we are NOT going to back down to them NO MATTER HOW BIG THEY THINK THEY ARE our voice can and willbe BIGGER then this.

Today I recieved the call I was waiting on the OFFICIAL call from A.P.S that all reasons given to me by the D.C.S for termination was NOT SUBSTANIATED !!!! I want to thank A.P.S for really taking the time to look at what was going on and realizing that there was more happening against me there then what they were saying. I just wanted to make sure that Select would get their call personally and YES THEY WILL they will get their call today as well.Way to go Select for terminating someone for false accusations BEFORE anything was investiagated by A.P.S and taking out on me that I am under workers comp.

If this is the way the hospital treats its own employees, which is disgraceful and illegal, one can only wonder how patients of different races are treated.

A hospital's goal and mission I thought is to heal the sick and injured, not to create the very maladies they have sworn to help and/or find a cure.

I have to agree with creative minds, I also think its disgraceful for a hospital to carrry on in this matter. the first time i read this story i was wondering the same thing, what about the patients of color that may have been mistreated by these people that were racist? this company will have a lot of explaining to do eventually. those who have waged this battle against this facility must hang in there and fight because this has to be dealt with. my hats are off to the 5 women and gentleman that stood up for whats right!!!!!

I am so appalled at the way that Select is wrongfully treating and terminating their employees. These people are hard working individuals and they should not be hassled at work and terminated for caring about the patients care or vitals. I hope that these disgruntled employees will contact an attorney if they haven't already and let this hospital know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

As I said before this is the companies culture. This type of treatment is on going at Select. From Kentucky, to Pa, to In. Select will only change when it affects the numbers of pts. Once people stop letting there family go to select then they will change. WE ARE ALL THE SAME COLOR ON THE INSIDE!!!!!!

I have worked with the tech that was fired for these accusations and I can say that there was NO reason for what happened to her.No one asked us about her work or working with her in their "investigation" at all. They were out to get her one way or another and if lying was their way then they went about all the wrong way.People that work for Select lost one of he best Tech's when they Fired Kathy and its sad that the ones that continue to do wrong are still there. When will someone see that there is alot going on here and it has to stop!If I was a family member I would think twice about putting them in a hospital that allows this to continue.Stay strong Kathy and it will all be made right in the end. WE MISS YOU !!!!

I FEEL THAT THIS HOSPITAL SHOULD BE RAN OUT OF LEXINGTON. I THINK ITS A SHAME THAT THE OWNERS OF THIS COMPANY WOULD ALLOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO OCCUR AND THEN CONTINUE ON ONCE THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT IT. I ALSO FEEL THAT UK NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS CLOSER BECAUSE AFTER ALL THIS HOSPITAL IS LOCATED INSIDE OF ITS FACILITY. WITH ALL THATS GOING ON WITH UK RIGHT NOW CONCERNING RACE RELATIONS ONE WOULD THINK THE LAST THING THEY WOULD WANT IS TO BE DOING BUSINESS WITH OBVIOUS RACIST COMPANIES!!!!! I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THIS A LITTLE CLOSER... DOES LEE TODD KNOW ABOUT THIS? DOES DR. KARPF KNOW ABOUT THIS? AND IF SO, WHAT ARE THEY SAYING? BETTER YET WHAT ARE THEY DOING ABOUT THIS? DONT MISUNDERSTAND...I REALIZE TECHNICALLY UK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS, HOWEVER, ARE THEY JUST USING THAT AS AN EXCUSE TO DO NOTHING AS USUAL WHEN IT COMES TO RACE RELATIONS? MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS HOW GOOD CAN THE CARE REALLY BE AT THIS HOSPITAL IF YOU HAVE THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY GOING ON? AND HOW MUCH OF A DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED AT THIS HOSPITAL NOW? I CERTAINLY DONT WANT TO EVER BE A PATIENT AT THIS HOSPITAL, I WILL DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO AVOID SELECT SPECIALTY HOSPITAL AT ALL COST!!! TO THE INDIVIDUALS IN THIS CASE...KEEP PRESSING ON, JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!!

I have worked at Select in Oklahoma city and Tulsa. Both were the most toxic work environments I have EVER worked in for the duration of my 15 year career as an RN.

In both cases, the management was incompetent. Typically, this exhibits itself as poor hiring choices for nurses and other personnel. When I worked at the Select specialty location ICU which was located in Baptist Hospital, there were so many abuses I can not even begin to tell you. However, On the first night I worked, of the 4 nurses that were working that night, after midnight all the women put their feet up on the desk, wrapped up in a blanket and turned off the lights and went to sleep. Only the untrained monitor tech was not sleeping and keeping an eye on patients. As I made an issue of this, I was labeled the troublemaker.

OKC had some of the worst moral and nursing skills of any place I have ever worked. There was this little twit nurse named Gary who decided he wanted to be the nurse manager and started getting rid of people he did not like. Basically I was fired for calling in, however two of the three calling's I had were actually voluntary opting off on nights that we had more staff than patients. Gary logged me as having called in rather than opting off. We had one nurse who what diagnosed with schizophrenia, and was chronically depressed.. and this woman was taking care of patients in critical care?!?!

If a staff member was competent and said something about the problems, they were soon let go. Of all the nurse managers they had in the year I was there (there were 3 in that time) All were incompetent!

Tulsa was almost as bad, i made the mistake of taking a position as an RN working on agency contract. I had reservations because of my problems with OKC. I was not soon disappointed. although the facility paid more than most, it was referred to by my agency as "hazard pay"

I had been hired to do charge one or two nights a week. They hired a fairly new nurse who had been out of nursing school for 5 years. It came to my attention that she was taking a medication that was making her feel "crazy." She had a habit of playing the victim. As I was explaining a high vancomycin level was something that the physician needed to be notified about, she became belligerent and accused me of talking down to her. There were two wittiness who heard the conversation and agreed, that I had not been inappropriate with her. As she was a "real" employee, they gave my charge position to her. Not that I had a problem with it, but she made the comment to another nurse that "I was 'weird' and she was going to get me DNR's meaning Do Not Return list.. ineligible to work there. That morning she accused me of fabricating charting and I called her on it. The nurse who overheard her comments also worked for my agency and reported what had happened. Needless to say, my contract was terminated.

I should tell anyone that is thinking of having a family member as patient, DO NOT DO IT. The nurse patient ratio is very bad, they are usually understaffed, and those nurses that work there do not generally give a damn about the patients. I know of one patient with severe pain issues, that simply needs her medication on time.. does she get it? No, she does not, the RN is the only one who is allowed to give IV narcotics, and most of the time is too busy to give the meds on time.

I would not put my worst enemy in this facility. If you care about your family member, you would be much better served by any facility but SELECT SPECIALTY.

I am glad to see that the word about the reputation about this "hospital" is getting out there where it needs to be. To the public and maybe someone will take notice and ban them all together. If not, maybe someone up there sitting by and watching these things happen MAY take notice and change this behavior before this gets any further.

I find it interesting to note that not one of these comments references the fact that the black employees who were disciplined for "personal remarks regarding homosexuality & Christianity" were violating company policy and were themselves engaging in open, vocal & condemnatory bigotry against gays in the workplace, as well as making bigoted remarks against Hispanics, thereby fostering the hostile work environment of which they're now complaining. When is bigotry going to become a two-way street for blacks in the workplace? When will people, regardless their minority status, learn that civil rights are for everyone? Have we learned NOTHING from the 60s?

There have been 2 diffrent times which two diffrent nurses gave two diffrent patients the wrong medication and both of which could have been fatal and one of which the outcome is not known and nothing happened to them but to be councelled about it.Another time a nursing tech was witnessed by a nurse grabbing a patient and causing a skin tear all because she was not able to get a sample of blood for a blood sugar and she was seen with her nails in the patients hand causing the skin tear and she too only got councelled about it.One nurse tech who worked at the time that the women in the lawsuit worked was given a yearly evaluation of a total of 1.55 which is almost perfect was suspended after working with a patient for 4 days and accused of verbally abusive to this patient AFTER she was accused of pushing a patient against a rail that the patient was a bariatric patient and was put in a bed that was too small.Another nursing tech has been reported on a number of occasions for falsifying legal documents of writing any vitals down that the employee wanted and nothing was done to that person either. Now tell me isnt that grounds for termination?Isnt neglect of the patient also grounds for termination? And I wonder if you could have killed someone that trusted you with their life by giving wrong medications is that not also a reson to terminate?I have seen almost EVERY employee that was working at the same time as the women in this lawsuit slowley lose their jobs for one reason or another.Makes you wonder what else select is also hidding.I have seen the repeated falsifying of documents to cover things in this hospital and stil the same staff is working taking care of our loved ones.Someone really needs to put a stop to all fo this.Select is NOT a place that i would think a hospital such as UK would want to have in their hospital
How do you know that unless you were there. Did they fire you? And why is it someone elses fault when that fat woman would not fit in a bed.

I was there for approx 3 years, the last year I was there 05-06 there was no racial bias From this company. There were racial comments made that should have not been made from some employees somtimes I wonder what people are thinking when things like that come out of their mouths. I know these employees were disciplined . I also know that they were placed on probation and told they would be fired if any other comments were made, even if it was unintentional.
As far as staff being "called off", to my knowledge there was no bias here . Charge people usually did their best to rotate staff, Calling off staff who were in over time first ect.... Complaints were answered immediately. Select even sent a liasion down to hold meetings about different races and their beliefs . I do believe problems staarted when Select as a company started pressuring the CEO to bring in more patients when there wasn't enough staff to handle what they had . Staff were moved up in ranks but eventually the staff the CEO moved up would not get along with anyone .People started quiting , people started getting fired because they were complaining too much. I got into the nursing profession because I truly loved helping people . They was my life. It is sad when money , selfish people , jealous people , make it difficult to care for others that need their help.
If you need me to testify I will . I know you all . Your good Nurses

I also worked at this Select and what these women say happened, NEVER happened. They were trouble makers and if you happen to check into a couple of the ladies past, you will see that this is the reputation of at least two of them. Its a scam to get money that's all it is plain and simple. The pretty much "dared" anyone to say anything to them after they made sure that everyone KNEW about their little lawsuit. AND Select DID offer them a settlement but GREED got in the way and it was just to shut them up. Its people like these ladies that make REAL problems such as this so hard to make stand. There is NO ONE that is supporting these women not even ex employees. I hope Select does stand up against these women and the ones that followed this silly ass suit.People like you deserve NOTHING ! Have you ever heard of "crying wolf"?

What I've read in all these posts is simular to what is going on here in Cincinnati. The difference is that it's a purge across the whole clinical staff for patient care.No one is exempt from this tactic of the management in place here. The message to all..is, the beatings will stop when morale improves. But the leadership does everything it can to keep down. This unit has turned into a circus of ethic insanity.
I wish you the best as you fight this.I have to say I'm convinced that SSH corp. wants it like this to keep turn over going. Why???
