Sgt Major told me an officer will always get a medal just being close to the action while an enlisted service memeber must fight just to get any type of medal...

Considering he's from a "Forward Surgical Team" i'd imagine he earned it by saving a fuckload of lives. Considering I have a close friend who received more than 300 units of blood (!) over 2 or more days to survive, why complain that these guys are recognized?
And, US ARMY, your sergeant major is an idiot and probably a POG. EVERYBODY gets service medals from downrange, plenty of Fobbits get recognition too, and your average low-level cherry lieutenant rifle platoon leaders has a fuckton more responsibility during a firefight than your general trigger-puller.
