It is about time to grant these highly qualified professionals the authority to practice their profession as they are trained. Why would anyone risk their professional license to write ill advised prescriptions?

There is a huge difference between someone with a midwife cert and a doctorate in medicine. This is just like the stupid motorcycle helmet law; reacting to the wrong voices. If our government keeps making decisions that have no basis in sound logic, God help us.

The "stupid motorcycle law" is a legitimate attempt by the government to increase the odds that a citizen will survive an accident when they are too dumb or stubborn to realize that a helmet can make "a huge difference"-- between life and death. Which would a biker's family and friends prefer?

Nurses, at least, know more that many doctors about specific patients as they spend more time with them. Midwives should be restricted to only the meds associated with their professional work.

As to the helmet law tossed into this discussion: one shock trauma unit near York has a "code" for a non-helmeted rider coming in, "Potential donor arriving." Your choice, but being young does not make one invincible, but does provide for good organ donations.
