VA official: Recruitment a challenge in Alaska
But Cynthia Joe said this challenge isn't exclusive to the VA in Alaska. Alaska has no medical school, and while there are nursing programs, hospitals and clinics are often trying to pull from the same pool of candidates.

There is no need for the VA to compete with the private sector in Alaska. Just pay the bills of veterans who obtain their care in the private sector. Besides, from what we have been seeing around the counry, the care will be MUCH better in the private sector.
