Go to the site called Health Grades. See that they had only a one star rating. See they were among the worst in the area apparently. Go to the site for the American Alliance of Health care providers and see how the hospital award system works. See the hospital pays an "application fee" to "apply" for awards. Note that it can all be done by paying money and filling out an "extensive application" in 6 areas and it has nothing to do with patient health outcomes but is customer service and communication stuff. So they are the National Hospital of the year in what again? Health care? No. It is sad but true though that people might easily believe it must be in health care. Do you think the hospital execs know that some people might assume the awards from AAHP are for actual good health outcomes for patients? Lets hope not. I'm sure they make it clear they are not awards for that. They have only just begun to improve from a mortality rate that was higher than expected and higher than its peers according to Health Grades and you can read that for yourself there. You can thank Walter May and the cardiac service line director for bringing in a team to work with them to reduce mortality and improve a lot.Health grades says there was a reduction in cardiac bypass surgery mortality to 0% in six months.. That was dated January 2010. Glad they fixed it.Hope it stays fixed. Glad no one I know had to go there before then. Hope they quit going for "awards" they have to pay an "application fee"for to apply and that they soon get awards that are health outcome related.

Understand that there is a selection process by AAHC after a hospital pays its money for the ap fee. Quarterly out of 400 hospitals 100 are selected as winners or something like that. Its on their site. Then there is the big yearly winner which PMC was and is so very proud of. Still it would make some people happier to get an award that there is no application fee required for and that is health outcome related.Something like the least in hospital infections or the longest survival rates post surgery or something health related anyway. Do they have any of those kind of awards from anywhere lately? Hmmmm? If not, hopefully they will as time goes on.

As for the person who said something about a woman being turned away and not being allowed to even plug in oxygen--it is a fact that no one can be turned away from PMC, something about what they agreed when they first opened. Which is why the hospital gets stuck with some of the same patients, for months at a time...we are the only hospital from Lexington to here--and more around the vicninity of these areas--that cannot refuse to treat a patient.
As for the person who stated they give morphine to everyone that walks in with pain. Totally untrue, and I'm sure if we give it enough time someone will complain they were looked at as someone seeking drugs and could'nt get anything for pain. You can't please people..at all.
And for the band-aid station comment--come up with something a little more unique. People get tired of hearing that. PMC may not be the best in the world but many life-saving operations and procedures have been performed. Just get a tally on how many people are coded and rapid responsed in a month. Those people probably don't believe they are at a band-aid station.

Ok, Lets try to set this straight. It seem like everyone is missing what this one is for. It isnt about live saving care. It isnt about new and exotic ways of treating someone in there for care. This one is for it being named one of the best places to work. Many other companies and hospitals took part in this. Every employee filled out a survey on how they like their job. The survey was a standarized form that gets mailed from the employee straight to the auditors, bypassing the hospital all together. So no one can say they changed anything before they was mailed in. The questions on the survey was some as follows...

This organization provided as much initial training as i needed.

My company clearly tells me what is expected for advancement.

I trust if I do good work, my company may consider me for a promotion

I am satisfied with the amount of cacation pay.

Those are just a few. The employees supposed to fill in a dot under either "disagree strongly", "disagree somewhat", "neutral", "agree somewhat", or "agree strongly". This award was givin to the hospital based on the employees being happy with working there, no other reason, so what does any of these posts really have to do with it?

It seems like no matter what any award is for, people like to badmouth. Even if they dont know what they are badmouthing about.
Please

The lastest radio ad, with with Juanita and Walter is the funniest thing that I have ever heard.

It is sooooooo funny. A fourth grader could be more original.

they sure as hell didnt give me morphine, i laid down there in writhing screaming pain from 10pm until nearly 2 am and they gave me a shot of toradol and some motrin to take home with me and that was that, took an xray which the doc had already told me would be of no use, but it got some fast cash from my insurance im sure, and i still had to go to my doctor to get a order for an mri, so no they dont give morphine, maybe if i had said i had a toothache and not that i had ripped a tendon out of my knee, hmmmm, coulda been better off at home with some baby aspirin
just wondering

And once again, see if you can understand it this time. This award you all are talking about has NOTHING to do with patient care, nothing to do with any type of ratings or anything. It goes on employee satisfaction with their jobs. So unless any of you out there can speak for either every employee or at least the majority of them. How come you all are questioning this?

See? Exactly my point--it wouldn't be long at all before someone said they could get nothing at all for pain.

pmc is the worst hospital ever i worked there for three years and hated it they treat u like shit and dont think twice about it. i bet most of the employees there feel the same and to them im sure its not the best place to work yea the insurence is good but thats about it. most the ppl i worked with only stay for that reason. but even now thats gone downhill i mean come on the damn er is not ever considered part of the hospital so therefore u still have to pay for that. that hospital kills patients every year but because they find ways around it its ok. i worked there and took my child in to the er because he was sick and they send him home with shit only to find that his condition was life threating and could have killed him at two years old had i not taken him to his doctor the next day and they want us to pay for that shit. well i refused. then in december of 2009 they killed my grandmother and they are yet to pay for that. her hospital bills were 200,000 dollars and for what her life come on u claim to be the best then act like it shop killing ppl and start helping.

If you want a really good staph infection, then have back surgery at PMC. I know of 6 cases including my wife's within the last year. Actually, my wife ended up with 5 surgeries in 3 months, then the wound had to heal from the inside out and then a wound vac for 6 weeks. All because someone picked their nose during surgery or didn't wash their hands of something. Although there are some good doctors and employees at PMC, as a whole I would avoid it. There are other hospitals in our region, and Lexington is only a couple hours away.
