Generally I use IE, like now, but I also have FireFox and Chrome on here which I do use sometimes.
I think Google updated one or more things in Google Earth leading to an incompatibility problem with the video driver. Every other program on these 5 pc's work fine. Only Google Earth no longer works, although it worked fine for years on the 2 pc's with XP.
I'll have to find somebody nearby who is more knowledgable about this stuff than I. That idiot I hired certainly wasn't. I knew more than he did, and was explaining things to him, His response "I better call my dad and ask him !(I kid you not !)

I switched to "OpenGL" mode and it started working. Seems like a "DirectX" protocol problem.

One of teh first things I tried was switching between OpenGL and DirectX, but it had no effect.

The fact that it worked on both pc's with XP for years, and then suddenly stopped working on both, leads me to believe Google changed something that is now incompatible with teh video drivers. But I don't know who to diagnose it down to that level. Hopefully, I'll find a local guru that knows.

(at least though it still works with cutieboysrus.com ! WOO-HOO !:))

The latest update of GE fouled up my older system, too. The graphics card hates it. Do you use chrome?
Interesting news. I'll be wary about updating mine. What version are you trying to run? Have you tried reloading an older version?

The days are very much numbered for PCs. To throw away money by buying another one just because one can't get one program to operate properly is just one reason why their days are numbered.

As to the VCR it only makes common sense to keep a functioning machine in order to utilize tapes you own. It wouldn't make much sense to go and buy another one just because one movie won't work with the one you already own. But to each his own.

And I already knew Fred hates Apple but it was past time to harass him a bit.
cpeter1313 wrote:
Well, that's kinda harsh, isn't it? Everyone has tech preferences. a tablet works for you; others like pc's. PC's don't have to be recharged, for one thing.
I still have a VCR. Too old-fashioned? I have about 80 movies on tape that have never been released on dvd. I've converted many other tapes to disc but many are protected from copying. Should I junk everything and hope they release them some day?

I am running 7.0.3.8542 without problems.

If you go to the download page, there is a button to customize your installation. You can choose the previous version 6.2 from there. Perhaps that will get you back into orbit.

I'm running GE 7.0.3.8542 also on this pc with XP. I just started it, and everything comes up normally EXCEPT THE IMAGERY !!!!:(

It USED TO work fine for years on this pc with XP.

Any ideas ?

I also can't get it to work anymore on my other pc with XP.

And the windows 7 machine I just bought the other dy specifically to run Google Earth, the entire pc crashes (not just the GE program), and I get teh dreaded blue screen of death.

Anybody have any ideas ?

Thank You.

I just got GE to work fine on my little notebook pc, which is running Vista. I checked the GE settings on the notebook and made sure that the settings on the other 3 pc's were exactly the same.

But the 2 pc's with XP, it will not run on. I believe I have correctly narrowed down the problem to it being a DirectX problem.(It won't run at all in OpenGL). But I haven't been able to fix it.(I think they're a few DLL's in a Windows directory, but beyond that, I don't know.

I got GE to open on the latest pc which is running Windows 7. GE runs normally for a very short time, and then the whole pc crashes giving the Blue Screen Of DEATH.

The last guy I hired to fix this (who was about 40 years old) knew less than I do, and just kept on saying "I better call me dad !"

I don't know why it's always so hard to find a GOOD pc guru who actually is knowledgable and knows what he's doing. I've only actually met 2 or 3 in my life. And not one yet in Arizona.

Gosh, I've used Apple products since 1987 and I've never encountered such issues. Why you folks think being forced to become an expert on the internal functions of something you use on a daily basis is SOP is beyond understanding. It's very much like being forced to speak a foreign language. Garbage in, garbage out.

As we've learned to say when folks ask us why Apple, we always answer, They just work!

You've just tried to twist ignorance into a status thing! SHAME ON YOU! You can go stand over in the corner with the fundies!

Apple? I was a founding member of BMUG (Berkeley Mac Users Group).

Apple only exists because we enjoyed getting under the hood and writing software for the damn thing. It was fun, and THEY profited.

btw: did you know that a MacSE that sold in stores for $1900 only cost $120 to manufacture? Apple comps ALWAYS cost far more than PCs do, and the software to run on them is often 20x the cost of near identical software for PC (example Photoshop $700 and PaintShop Pro $35).

This problem is p[art of Google's push to transition everything onto "the cloud" where users can be charged for everything on a per use basis in a few years.

(The old BMUG guys are frequently overheard saying "What have we done!!!)

Well, that makes sense because the more you use a program, the faster it wears out.

During the mid 90s we were running more than 25 apple machines in out AIDS agency. Apple had supported our efforts for years, even bringing groups of AIDS groups out to the Cupertino Campus for weeklong training sessions and providing us with new Macs. We saved thousands of dollars by not having down time while MSFT shops were dead for days and sometimes weeks at a time because of viruses and crap.

Apple products, except for a brief time while Steve was gone, were always worth the cost premium. Apple today is and will continue to change our world for the better. And you can't ask for a better supporters of GLBT issues.

I agree.

From what I have red these poor people live in virtual slave-labor conditions for pennies a day in wages.

To help ease the terrible unemployment problems of The Obamanaic economy, how about the stockholders, i.e. the owners, AND the customers, DEMAND that ALL APPLE PRODUCTS be made in the U.S.A.?

Who could be against that ?!

Even if an APPLE product MAY cost a few dollars more !

Since Apples are already grossly overpriced in terms of manufacturing costs ...

People already pay prices for Apple products that would be appropriate if they WERE manufactured here.

So why don't the stockholders and customers demand that they be produced in the U.S.? Why would someone be against that proposal since their customers are so dedicated to them ?

And btw, the first computers I ever used WERE APPLEs. I think the first pc I used, after using the 2 APPLEs, was an 8086 with DOS 3.0 and a single 5-1/2" floppy drive.

I remember when I had it upgraded with a HUGE 20mb hard drive. I didn't even know such a thing existed at at the time ! LOL (circa 81 I think)
