Indded, my internist has to contact OSS for my postop orthopedic care...what a joke that OSS can't handle their own surgical complications!

OSS couldn't even properly diagnose a broken ankle even using X-rays.

This is quite concerning to me. Did you obtain a second opinion?

I am glad to see that Wellspan has gotten an orthaepedic team! I had a nasty accident--fell off my deck and fractured a hip. Had this Dr not recently come to Wellspan I would have had to be sent to Johns Hopkins or Hershey. He did an excellent job and I am well on my way to complete recovery. My care was excellent and the Dr was very caring and follow-up was on time and excellent also. I am glad to see some competition to the OSS monopoly.

ANY health place that is NOT run by Wellspan is a much better place to be treated.
John's Hopkins in Balt. isn't that far way and is the #2 hospital in the NATION!
Hopkins is the #1 hospital, not #2. But I agree, the hour drive is worth it over Wellspan!

I have gone to OSS for many years. All different situations. Two years ago I was in York Hospital and I had to go to Health South or a Nursing home for rehab. I chose Health South. The rehab part of the hospital was great. I couldn't have gotten better without their help. The hospital part is another story. Semi private rooms. I had a roommate who had to have an oxygen machine. It was like sleeping in a garage with a Harley in it. One night a man either got out of bed or fell (I'm not sure) and he was sleeping in the corner of the room for a few hours. I needed pain meds in the middle of the night. I was authorized to have them. After asking three times, and getting ignored, I was told that the 2nd shift nurse had taken the med cart key home with her. I never got the pain meds until 1st shift.

I would recommend OSS to anyone. I don't care about the fancy environment. It's a pleasure to walk in, you instantly feel more relaxed. The staff is more than helpful. And every doctor I have seen is professional, takes the time with you to not only explain, but show you the problem, and how it can be fixed.

I am happy that we have a forward thinking medical center rather than the wait and see what happens to the area before we do anything about it attitude.

The complication was an infection. It is a miserable story &nd I won't go into details, but it would turn any normal person away from OSS.
I came away with the opinion that OSS would rather have a doctor not in their practice diagnose the infection so it does not go on their statistics. Believe it or not, the OSS orthopedic doctor made me wait until he could get me admitted under my internists care so he (internist) could then consult him (the orthopod)....the internist said the infection was a post-op complication & he really didn't want to admit me under his service but since OSS was insisting & did not want to do the admission...he would, so I would get the care I needed. I had no medical problems at all other than the infection. Finally, I needed more orthopedic surgery so poor OSS had to switch me to their service! OSS has gotten too big, too fast & many of their doctors spend very little time with their patients and they can go 2 or more days without visiting them when they are hospitalized with serious problems!

nvf you have a false sense of the bedside manners. You may have praised such good care from certain doctor and staff.
I,m not sure how many will share your opinion. I've heard others say other things while waiting for my epidurals.
Either way it depends on what side of ilse you are on.
Severve post OP pain

OSS had gained a notorious reputation for not effectively treating pain. They have some arcane belief that Vicodin is some wonder drug and will effectively treat your post operative pain even if you take it daily for chronic pain. Ask around, you will find many who have had severve pain after sugery and OSS refuses to prescribe anything stronger than vicodin. This is forcing people into the ER for something they should be handling. I'm not sure how they continue to get away with this.
If your going there for surgery, make sure you consult your primary care physician and make arragements for post op care through your PCP or you may end up in the ER asking for pain medication.

This is a good decision to have its own team for Orthopedic and Spine Specialists. This do increase the chances for better treatment for all patients within the specific time. The Orthopedic eBooks do mentions about lots of treatment and care for affected persons. This do states the natural based therapies too that really works good for the patients.
