Really like the phrase "maximizing and repurposing the existing nursing home." Rethinking how senior communities ought to be is essential, especially for rural communities where public transportation is limited. And considering how long we are projected to live (see: http://assistedlivingtoday.com/2013/02/announ... ), the need for innovative housing will only increase. Good points made in this article.

It's about time that senior communities in rural America undergo changes that will make the lives of the elderly more comfortable since they will have access to things like preventive health services, socialization and learning opportunities, fitness, technology and sub-acute and acute care. And the good news is, the services can be paid through combination of private dollars, Medicare and private coverage.
