I have to give the ANA and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing an A for successfully blanketing California with an avalanche of lies about the existence of a nursing shortage. This time they found a whole platoon of dumb, lazy reporters to help them, and it didn't cost them a thing!
The problem is that there are real people being hurt by their money-grubbing, corrupt, slimy tactics because they believe there is a nursing shortage when in reality California is in the midst of a GLUT of nurses who can't find jobs. In fact, 43% percent of new nurses in California are still unemployed after 18 months of searching according to both CNN and the Wall Street Journal.
The worst part of it is those whose loans are now due work in fast food, as topless maids or beg for their old office jobs back after they throw in the towel and are facing financial catastrophe. Many of the early casualties (2009-11) have dropped off the radar now. Where are they?
Hey reporters ...instead of being spoon fed your stories by a bunch of selfish academics and think tank mavens why not do some real work and research what happened to those "old" new nurses?
