My experience with attorneys has been that they are clinging to a business model that was adopted years ago. Instead of charging an agreed upon all inclusive fee for their services, they charge a fee and then bill for loads of "disbursements", some of which are ridiculous. For example,$.20 for a photocopy,$.15 for a phone call, etc. While additional charges are sometimes warranted, like large depositons that cannot be included in a fee, the small charges that nickel and dime the client actually reflect a greedy mentality on the part of the attorney. In essence, most large law firms have created a pure profit business model in which they require their clients to pay their cost of doing business. Pretty nifty!
