Why are Dutch children so happy?

Dutch children have been rated the most fortunate children in Europe. Their parents go out of their way to please them, and teachers expect less of them than some of their European counterparts.

i think that in the netherland children find themselves in could conditions socially economically...so there is no way they are going to be happy.

Why is their "happiness" considered more important than their intellectual development, their consideration for others, and their ability to make their way in the world when they become of age?
Sounds from the article that they're a bunch of spoiled brats who have a tough time dealing with adult life once they become of age.

i have been a visitor to the nederlands for over 20 years .i love the place as do my sons 15 and 12 years old.we have always been treated very well and made to feel welcome .there is a very good attitude towards young people which unfortunatly seems to be missing in the uk im very sad to say.
