Tsn reporting Holmgren talking to Ray Emery. I hope to god they sign him I see this type of golie producing very well in Philly. i dont care what happened in Ottawa that orginization screwed him over and anyone would be mad if they brought in another golie to be in competition with emery after he took them to the cup finals. He is a very good golie.

I think Emery could be an up grade. Yet they could also get Lehtonen who is younger and I think alot better and have a goalie for the future.

I wouldn't mind giving up Lupul and his lazy play.

Here's my take on this: Ray Emery seems to be another goalie that COULD be the guy for the Flyers in between the pipes but would come with more question marks than certainty. If they could sign him for, say, a 2-year deal worth 2M or so per year, than fine...but I don't want them to give him a big contract or anything more than a 3.5M cap hit. I think they need to give him a 2-year contract, worth around 2-2.5M a year and see how he does...and if he performs well enough, than maybe we can give him an extension, but my gut tells me that this might be a bad move because, the Flyers really need to either draft a no.1 goalie, or make a trade for one (ie. Buffalo's Jhonas Enroth or Minnie's John Harding). I don't know, as well, how MUCH of an upgrade over Biron he'd be as well, cause since the 2005-06 season, Emery's stats are 2.82, 2.47, and 3.03 GAA in each season. His save percentages are .902,.918, and .890...now, of course, Emery has been a no.1 goalie for a much longer time than Marty Biron has, and he's much more sound fundamentally and, hopefully, is better at his lateral movements.
As for Lupul, I wouldn't mind them giving him up as well, as he's not as aggressive as he was last season and despite his 25 goals this season, doesn't score consistently enough. I think Lupul could be packaged in a trade with another team for, say, a higher pick the draft or they could get a top 4 defenseman in place of him. Here's my idea of what the Flyers can do.
Package Lupul and Carle (together or in seperate trades) for a higher pick in the entry draft. There are two players that I believe the Flyers would be interested in looking at: Nazem Kadri and Loius LeBlanc. Both are forwards (wingers) and any of them would more than make up for the loss of a Lupul in our lineup. Check them out online and look at their scouting reports. Right now, Ottawa is poised to select 8th overall, so there's a good chance that the Sens may pick him up. I don't think the Sens are headed toward an overhaul, so the additions of Lupul and Carle could be enough to make a trade like that.
Send JVR (if it's required) to Buffalo in exchange for Enroth or to Minnesota in exchange for Harding, and let either of them develop. I'm not sure if JVR is going to be the stud winger that everyone expects him to be. He didn't develop enough at UNH and I think it might be another year or two before he has a full time job on the parent club; although, with Gagne's contract set to end after the 2010-11 season, he might be poised to take Gagne's spot at the time, but it all depends on how much we have to give up for the goalie prospect.
Next, sign Ray Emery...2 year deal, nothing more, and let him hold fort until the Flyers are all set with their goalie prospect.
Sign Mike Komaserek and Fracois Beauchemin OR Anton Babchuk. Mike Komaserek would make up for the loss of Jason Smith's physical presence and would be the Flyers crease clearer. The Flyers sorely missed Smith in that regard, and need a defenseman who makes it tough on opponents to just dump and chase. He's really important when there are scrums around the crease and players are trying to poke the puck in the net and get a dirty goal. Beauchemin is one of the most underrated defenseman, despite his low point totals. He's got a rocket from the point and would be a really solid top 4 defenseman for Philly. Anton Babchuk is similar but is younger and has higher point totals. Babchuk would be harder to get though cause he's an RFA so Carolina would be able to match any offer.
