What's the difference between committing suicide by taking drugs and alcohol, and accidentally taking drugs with alcohol?

No disrespect intended, but seems like they're trying to sugar coat it.

I wonder if they will go after the people that supplied him with the drugs?

Accidental. They know what the risks are. He was a adult.. Sad, but accidental, no. Eveyone who drinks knows the risks of drinkling and taking drugs.

No because it was a doctor that gave it to him.

Maybe. I have to wonder if he got hooked with one of his injuries in the same way Rush Limbaugh and a lot of others have. I know I'd want some "oxy" if I got hit a few times by a guy capable of taking on Boogaard, whether or not I got a concussion.

It looks like the Oklahoma linebacker who recently died also OD'd on painkillers. Maybe it's time for the college and pro leagues to take a close look at what's happening as players recuperate from those hits.

RIP, Derek.

How sad....my brother died of the same thing, drugs prescribed by a physician, combined with alcohol, but sadly it was not listed as "accidental" - oh how I wish it would have been, the shadow of a suicide is nothing I would wish upon anyone. My prayers & sympathy to the family & friends of Derek. Accident or no accident, the pain will never go away.

WBL mommy...
God bless ya, and thanks for sharing.
With the Big-Pharma marketing of the new breed of Painkillers, and Doctors' willingness to prescribe them freely, this kind of "accidental" death is becoming QUITE COMMONPLACE in the USA.
These are very, very dangerous (NARCOTIC) drugs in respect to their strength, their inherent dangers regarding dependency, and of course, the obvious danger of mixing them with ALCOHOL.
People are taking these painkillers like aspirin now, and that creates a very dangerous precipice.
And, no...you would not need to be "suicidal" to O.D. on Oxy & a few brews.

RIP, Derek.

Maybe the constant head shots led him to think that drinking and Oxy was a good choice. I cannot feel bad for the guy.

Accidental?

The guy could read the jar? I suspect it said NOT to mix with Alcohol. So that would NOT BE accidental but intentional stupidity to say the least.

Geez the way the media portrayed this guy, I thought the pope had died.

Never heard of the guy before the endless news stories.

Well let that be a lesson to others. If the jar says not to mix this drug with alcohol....don't mix the pills with booze. Fairly easy concept I believe.

How did they determine it was accidental?

I'M SURE SOMEONE HAD TO HAVE KNOWN HE WAS TAKING THIS DEADLY MIXTURE AND WHY DID THEY LET HIM CONTINUE. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU BOOGEY.
