Dennis Alfton is outright lying. There are recycling bins, but all those bags go in the same truck: the garbage truck.

Anytime public entities (Excel Energy center) brings in consultants I can't help but think kickbacks. I am sorry to imply, but I just can't help it. I can't believe that consultants can come up with policies and procedures that Excel's own workforce couldn't come up with.

Wasteful.

I am getting sick and tired of hearing the word GREEN being used unless they are talking about trees, grass, paint or Kermit the frog. I would imagine our government paid some consulting firm a huge amount of money to come up with ways to overuse the word green to the point one gets by shoving their finger down their throat, just makes one want to throw up.

Per usual, I question the numbers these guys throw around. When I attend an event, I usually have a hot dog, a water, maybe an ice cream cone. I've got to think I'm a pretty average consumer of arena food. The trash I generate can't possibly exceed 1 ounce. How do they figure that each person generates a pound of trash each time they visit? What am I missing here?

As a skeptic myself, I usually tend to question the numbers also. But here, I think they are also taking into account the concession stand trash (boxes, bags, etc).
And I also up the average for everyone by throwing away my old bowling balls when I go to games;-)

I was wondering that too. The consultants must be counting the packaging that goes into the creating of the food?

It sounds like I'm like you. I'm pretty frugal (read: "cheap") and usually don't buy much, maybe a popcorn ($5 soda pop?! No thanks). If I bring my kids we often bring our own snacks since one has severe peanut allergies and he can't eat any of the stadium food anyway.

Funny thing? My boys want to pick up so many of those plastic cups and popcorn tubs that we have a negative waste factor. Maybe I could charge "credits" like Al Gore does?

Numbers like 'pounds per person' are a result of dividing total waste by total annual visitors. Total waste likely includes whatever is thrown out (even recycled) across an entire operation so it includes guests + operationally. That is my guess....

The numbers are more accurate than you can imagine. You have to think about all the packaging items arrive in as well as all the food waste. Remember you have restaurants and suites that generate more than if you just purchase hot dogs and a soda or popcorn. As for consultants, until someone measures exactly what was going on, NO ONE can actually know results positive or negative. Why do people always assume the WORST. Sometimes it takes new eyes to see things and provide direction to raise things to a new lever.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Cancer

You've had enough time to yourself lately. This is a day to focus on family, with all the good and bad that that brings. Crabs would much rather be at the top of the tree than down near the roots, but that's life. You might be smart when it comes to matters of the heart, but you don't know it all quite yet.
