Of all the names being thrown around, the guy I like the most is Neil Smith.

According to the PB Post Doug McLean is one of 3 supposed finalists. Bringing him back as GM would be a big mistake. He did a really poor job in Columbus.

I still wager an "it's a ritual" t-shirt from 2002, a broken Juraj Kolnik hockey stick, lunch with the Panther Patrol and $12 beer at the BAC....... IT WILL BE Randy Sexton "promoted" (with no compensation of course)...... |
||||
|
Doug McLean is my pick- best communicator w/people in general, well spoken and decent person all around doesn't have bad luggage of associates, family or other friends and associates, prospects that may interfere later on. Very healthy choice with an eye to Nash in a year or 2 or other potential players from BJs. Gord Murphy was his type of player in the Panthers 1986 - all the way to the top !

and yes, good vibes with Florida, must be lucky the Prince Edwards connection. We had enough bad luck since he left Florida !

You have to give AC credit for being this savvy. I read on NHL.com that the Panthers GM position is not a salary position. They are looking for someone willing to work for a compensation package based on the following: Sell "Building A Strong Foundation For The Future" for 3-5 years; trade any Panther all-star for draft picks & prospects before you have to pay him all-star money; do not lose the last remaining 466 delusional rah-rah fans; maintain a 25% profit margin, and the compensation is a percentage of gross parking and recycled Steve Washburn Panther jersey revenue....... |

I would take Sexton over Doug MacLean and Doug Risebrough, however there are some good candidates available.
On Bowmeester: Rumors heated up in the afternoon that the Panthers were about to deal the negotiation rights to Jay Bouwmeester, their talented defenseman who becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1. His landing spot? Right now it sounds like the Flyers are being the most aggressive and might be willing to send a roster player - far exceeding earlier rumors that the Panthers might get only a third-round draft pick. If not the Flyers, look for the Kings and Canucks to make a push for the 25-year-old smooth-skating blue liner. Bouwmeester would look great in a Bruins uniform, his puck-moving skills a great complement to the Norris Trophy-winning Zdeno Chara. However, if he were to sign a long-term deal worth $6 million - his projected figure - it would force the Bruins to deal Wideman (three more years at $3.875 million cap hit). http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/ar... |

No Ponzi schemes, just cheap...that's quite the opposite...now who stole your lunch box today ? |

Great Post! And here's why: It was actually 1996, not 1986. Panthers inaug season was 1993. But that's the best post in years, because, really, at this point, what's the diff, it may as well have been 1986........ |

1 As A Flyers Fan I would love to see him on this team. We need some scoring from our defense. That being said I don't think it will happen. The Flyers are to close to the cap right now and Jaybo salary will either push them over or up against the cap. We had this problem last year where the Flyers brought in a player for a one day contract because they couldn't call anyone up from the minors with out going over the cap. |

If ya didnt like JM....ya cant like his gofer boy Sexton.
|

Who are the other two on the short list? Randy Sexton? Jack Birch?

Risebrough, MacLean and I believe Denis Potvin. |
|||
|
Good riddance. Let him go.
All he has done is whine about wanting to be in a "Hockey Town" and play with a team that "can win a championship". Well guess what Bow wow, this IS a hockey town last time I checked and we came closer to being in the playoffs more than ever before. His whining is demeaning to his team-mates and as a fan, to me as well. Let the sniveling little whiner go and good riddance. |
||||
|
according to what I read earlier Potvin is not being considered as Torrey is now saying previous GM experience is a must for the job. I read the 3 guys on the short list are MacLean, Risebrough and Neil Smith.

rumour floating around that Bouw's rights have been dealt to the Flames for the rights to Mike Cammallieri
and a draft pick. Anyone else heard this yet? |

Since: Dec 08

Haven't heard that but it would be good for the Panthers to get a draft pick. Not so much for Calgary as Bouw will go wherever he wants after July 1 and for him to sign beforehand would be a huge financial mistake. |

Here's a funny one. Luongo wants $8 million a year for five years to sign long-term with Vancouver.

It would be the best move of all. Cammallieri would be a great fit with the Panthers, especially as he is now showing the ability to score. The guys on the Hockey Night in Canada radio show were recently speaking very highly of him. |
||||
|
If it's true they still have to sign him by July 1st.
I like Cammalleri, I think he would would be a good fit for the Panthers too. He has proven he can score golas without having an elite center as a setup guy. If this is true and they can sign him this would make up somewhat for not trading Bouw at the deadline. |
