The list of top centers includes Crosby, Getzlaf, Savard, Carter, Staal, Toews, Spezza, Richards, Lecavalier and Ribeiro. A very impressive list. I'd love to see them pick Savard. Unfortunately, unless he wins the Cup and Conn Smyth trophy this spring, he's not on the radar. He's the scuttlebutt so far. It wouldn't suprise me if he's overlooked. Canada is loaded with talented forwards and Thorton has never been very good in high pressure games. Don't get me wrong. He's enormously talented player who has all the tools to succeed, but he's not a clutch player and he often times looks disinterested on the ice. After Canada was embarrassed in the last Olympics they can't afford to go with players who are half-hearted about playing.

If they don't win Gold, it will be a failure.

He's not healthy, is older and slower and there are so many better younger players who are more deserving. Savard is one of the league's best playmakers. No matter where he plays, he makes every player around him better. Plus his game style fits into international play really well.

But will it be a failure if they win every game up until the gold medal game, winning by a margin of 10 goals and shutting out every single opponent, but still losing that final game and only earning silver? Hmmm.

I also question placing him on the roster, but as the decision-makers are indicating the same approach was taken in Salt Lake when Mario and Stevie Y were invited, despite their nagging injuries at the time, due to their leadership and status in the game.

Hmmm. ABSOLUTELY. If you don't win it all, it's deemed a failure. Silver is for the first loser :)

Though there are some here who seem to think that shutting out every opponent and winning by 10 goals a game, except for a loss in the gold medal game, would constitute something to be looked back at fondly!

But replying to this imaginary scenario concocted to make a point about finishing as the Number 1 seed and getting bounced in the first-round verifies the suspicions. Get out of the sun for a while and rehydrate because it's affecting your rationale thinking. Jackson, I've tried to find some semblance of intelligence in your posts, but alas there is none. I think the cold and dreary Edmonton winters have frozen what little of a brain you were born with. And, having a crummy Oiler team and a crappy arena, I can understand why you are fixated on South Florida and the Panthers. Bottom line is you are no athlete, and you know nothing of competitive sports. You posted about something you know nothing about and could never participate in--marathons---and when you got called on it, you whined like the old geezer you are.

Louis, I am 40-years-old, and compete in men's league hockey after playing junior. I can skate faster backwards than you could going forward, and I would put money on that. I know about the game and its nuances unlike your rah-rah,'I'm a puck bunny' mentality. In fact, I chatted with Zack Stortini today about the playoffs when I ran into him at a local mall. He didn't ask about you. The reason I have followed this board since last July (previously under GoOilers) is to keep tabs on the contract situation with Bouwmeester as I know some of his family members from here in my neighbourhood. Although you diss the Oilers, I recall them going to Cup finals in 2006, which really isn't that long ago compared to 1996. Just to show how gullible you really are, you probably think Jack Tupp is a real name. Fool.

Potvin wrote: <quoted text> Fact= Jokinen hasnt helped any of his teams. Dont be surprised if Jokinen gets traded after dissapointing yet again. Someone needs to tell Jokinen there's no i in team. I don't agree it's likely Jokinen will be traded. Trades mean two teams are involved. Even if Calgary wants to trade him they aren't just going to give him away for nothing. And potential trade partners, even ones like Montreal who badly need a first/second line center, will surely be hesitant to give up any assets for Jokinen. But in all honesty why are you even talking about Jokinen? He is long gone, two teams removed from the Panthers now. His performance doesn't have anything to do with Florida. And to think he's the main reason the Flames went out so quickly is just wrong. Do you have any idea of Calgary's injury situation? I just don't get the never-ending talk about Jokinen. It's over, let it go & be done with it.
