AP - In the interest of comprehensive journalism: Did you contact the Flyers and what was their response? Because there are several sources reporting that the Blue Jackets (and other teams) have inquired about Carter, but were told by the Flyers that he is not available.

It just seems like this article is one sided and half done.

This would make for a big late spring/early summer for Scott Howson. Siging a goalie coach and adding a center who can play with Rick Nash.
Now if they can just find a third or fourth liner like a Mark Recchi who can bring 40 plus points to the board to help with their enigmatic checking lines and bring some secondary scoring.
Oh yeah, forgot about the blue line - I believe the complete overhaul is years overdue. Good luck there and please find some guys who are able to do more than just chip it off the glass out of the zone.

I thought Columbus was looking to unload players not sign high value players and besides why would Jeff Carter want to come from a potential Stanley Cup Contender to an rebuilding organization but then again If he can play along side Rick Nash he wound'nt complain!!

I absoultley do NOT like this deal for Columbus.. Carter is a solid player but during the next ten years Voracek will likely end up a much better player. Voracek is also cheap, your getting about 2/3 the production at 1/3 the cost. Alone Voracek for Carter seems like a shaky deal but then your throwing in that draft pick ya right... Howson do not make this trade.

Gary, Jeff Carter would not have a choice. He is not a free agent.
TBJF - Howson needs to win now. He cannot wait any longer for Jake to develop. A guy like Jeff Carter has very good numbers, but has never had a player like Rick Nash on his wing. His numbers could go through the roof with Nash if Rick learns to bring it every night.
Also, he would be a great mentor for Brass and Johanson.
Hopefully if they include Jake and the pick, they can get a d-man as well.

Just shows what it would take to get a good player...our best all around player. Although Carter would upgrade us a little, it would not improve us if we part with Voracek. Juice, Brassard, or Filatov, and its a good deal. Voracek will never be a 50 goal guy, but he is going to be a tough grinder, who plays defense and gives you 20-28 goals and a bunch of assist. This would not improve this team!

I would rather see Nash traded for Carter and their pick!

Carter seems to be so hot and cold and his physical game lacks something. I think they could do well by replacing him with a more experienced, lower priced but still talented player. It will be interesting to see the results. I think they give up on the older stars too rasily. Look at Mark Recchi for example.

If the Stanly cup is the goal and Carter is that good why would the flyers trade him for one unknown and a young Jake unless they feel Jake will replace the lost production of Carter? and do it soon? It won't be a huge cost saving for them. For us one man doesn't make a team. Anyone remember Glenncross? Mike Commadore? How about Torres, Malhotra, and Rome? Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmm....I don't like the deal! I like the things I read about Carter and believe he could help the team but the price is too high. Way too high!

Philly will have to unload some salary if they sign that PHX goaltender, who they just traded for to get bargaining rights. They will not be able to be under the cap with him and Carter is a big money guy without a no trade clause like most in his income range.

Philly has options on who it can trade... a few d-men, Leino, and even Verssteeg. While Howson may want Carter, he is going to have to settle for just a few upgrades. I hope they trade Mason and sign a consistent goalie.

Has anyone looked at his playoff stats over the last three years? They are very weak. He either was hurt for half the games this year and last or his play was so awful that he was benched for those games.
I think CbJ and Dispatch should hold off on the fireworks about this deal.

Why does everyone assume that the Dispatch is throwing a party about this deal? They are just reporting that it has been confirmed that Philadelphia and Columbus have been talking about a deal that may involve Carter and Voraceck.

Every year we spend waiting for all these players to develop, only to see baby steps at best, is another season this team loses more games, money, fans, corporate sponserships and interest from the community and the NHL on the whole.

Yes, Jake could POTENTIALLY develop into a beast of a playmaking winger, but he hasn't here. Carter is a big center that can distribute, but he also is a threat to score and we need that.

Every year its the same, we fall in love with the potential our young players still have, only to see them fail our expectations yet again. We have developmental problems all over this franchise and its been going on since the beginning.

Banking seasons on our young players' potential is a trend that needs to stop unless this franchise learns how to properly draft, develop, build and coach a proper NHL feeder system.

I agree RS that salary will have to be cut but Jake is due a raise so the cap savings won't be all that much unless they look at it long term. That makes me wonder about Carter. I mean he has a long high dollar contract. Is he living up to it? Puts me in mind of Commador. Now look at Jake. 21 or 22 years old kid playing on a top six line against the best in the world. He still has a couple of years before he reaches physical maturity. He's due a raise but it won't be as much as Carter is getting. Carter at 26 is in his prime now but is he living up to contract? Bisket say's over the last three years his numbers aren't so great. Is he injured? Or has the big money made him Lazy as marissa2 said? I say it's a bad trade.

Look at all the trades Howson has made. It's time to start looking at his record. He's brought some good players here and done some good things. Then traded them away for more prospects or once weres. Or big contracts like Commies who didn't live up to it. I mean Rick Nash is the only player he hasn't touched. Many of those he traded away were fan favorites too. Like Torres and Malhotra that are NHL ready. Jody Shelly is another. The stands were full with those players because they were mature and fun to watch. The record was about the same but look at the stands now...Look at Filatov and Mase. Were they rushed into the NHL and made "gunshy". Will they recover and live up to their abilities? Will the same fate be in Johansons future?

We need Carter or another Veteran (that is not washed up) playmaking/scoring/offensively skilled Centerman NOW!! Voracek lost most of my votes last year with his poor play and conditioning down the stretch. He also has never banged the bodies he could at his size, nor scored consistently as he should. It's time for him to go for something good, while he is still worthwhile goods.
