Oilers 6, Blue Jackets 3: Mason gets lit up again, pulled from latest loss | BlueJacketsXtra

The Blue Jackets keep sending goaltender Steve Mason out to play, hoping he'll rediscover his game and prove that the struggles of last season were the fluke, not his record-setting, trophy-winning rookie season. Read more

When are we going to realize that Mason just isnt the goalie he was a couple seasons ago? We can continue to start Mason and its going to get us right back out of the playoffs. Why wait until the game is over at 6 goals before we pull him? Garon is consistent for the most part and a lot more than Mason so why not start him? Coaching staff and Howson are constantly saying that Mason is our top goalie and they dont want him to sit long....how many games are we going to lose before they realize Mason deserves to sit? We also need to stop those turnovers I saw major ones from Nash, Huselius and Klesla and start scoring. Bottom line quit throwing Garon into net after Mason gets us in a mess. Start Garon.I understand he would have played back to back games but maybe we wouldnt have lost 6-3. Poor effort by the team and should have pulled Mason before the game was over.

"Is that a boat sinking on the Scioto River Bill?"

"No...that's the CBJ sinking in their division. Not only

sinking, but taking their motivation, desire & pride

down with them."

1.) Bye-bye Mason..you're slow...your vision for the puck

stinks. A one-hit wonder...they need folks like you as

airport scanners.

2.) In this era of pro sports players only playing

when they want to...let's pay this team one game at a

time. See if their motivation comes back.

3.) Why anybody would use their hard earned paycheck to

see these clowns is a mystery.

It's time for the Sophomore slump to end or time for Steve Mason's career to end...

Embarrassing effort. But have no fear. It could have been worse if they were wearing the 3rd jersey.

The BlowJackets need to sit Mason for a long while, before he gets burnt out for good.
Garon has been decent, and if he is consistently getting starts he'll probably be pretty viable in the long run.

It crushes me to see our Blue Jackets disgraced like this. Every day when I read the dispatch extra about the probable lines for the upcoming game, and I see Steve Masons name, my excitement is instantly deflated, for obvious reasons. Garon should be our guy, for now, at least. Then mason needs to go to Springfield, and we can acquire another talented goaltender.

All I want is what is best for our Blue Jackets, I'm not going to discuss the past, let's just fix the future. I carry the flag proudly. Go Jackets!

If they're going to "develop" him, send him down. If he's not salvagable, trade or release him. But for God's sake, stop letting him play goalie and stink up the ice. Stop letting him ruin Columbus' chances of getting into the playoffs. Stop putting him in only to pull hiim after a period or two (should have been ONE period this time, Scott!).

Stop the madness. This guy's taking us down with him.

Mason really sucks. He is worse at stopping goals than the Ohio State football special teams are at stopping returns for touchdowns.

I did not see last nights game, but of all the ones in the arena I see, I don't see any other team members helping the goalie out. In fact often when the puck goes in the net, CBJ players are standing right in the goalies way of seeing where the puck is coming from. Why do we always blame the goalie when there are five other players on the ice (usually). They got 23 shots on goal, great, but only 1 out of 21 players could get them to go in.....do we blame that on our goalie too?

The article noted that he didn't get help on a couple of them, and yes, the defense needs to pick it up. I've seen people standing around, too.

Doesn't change the fact that Mason gives up a lot of soft goals and gets pulled. Arniel isn't stupid, he can see which are legit goals and which Mason let in.

He shouldn't see the ice again until at least January.

Is the goal to get 5000 average home attendance?

Patience is patience, but time to send Mason to Springfield or lower. Kudos to Arniel for his patience, but the season is slowly sinking. We still have a chance with Garon to get to the playoffs.

If Mason needs to pass waivers to be sent down no worry, no team will pick up his fat contract next season-although we could pray.

He's a mental head case and will cost the team the playoffs if Arniel continues to start him. He has lost at least 5 or 6 games this season based on mental collapses..

You're a loser, this franchise is hopeless. They'll be gone within 5 years to an actual city that can support pro sports. Then lowly ole columbus will be back to being the amatuer town it always has been.

Mason should have been pulled after the first two goals last night. You could see he was not focused. Enough is Enough. That
being said, the blueliners were not much better. They just don't skate. This was the Oilers not the Red Wings. I expected better. Foolish me. Please Mr. Howson find us some defense.

I hate to say it, but Mason needs to be sent to the minors until he recovers his game. Anyone watching Mason can see that this is not the same goalie who dominated the ice in his spectacular first year. To heck with the contract and the huge money committed. Mase is not playing anywhere at an NHL level. Send him down, let him recover his game, and then bring him back. Until then, is there any way to bring back a Manny Legace or another vet from Europe, to pair with Garon?

It seems to be Arniel's biggest mistake yet - keeping Mason in when he's really playing badly. Lot's of fat, juicy rebounds for the taking and too many easy shots that should have been stopped.

Also, puck handling continues to be an issue. We give the puck away far too often, which is entirely different than takeaways. Very sloppy passing.

I'm disappointed that this team gave up after the first period. The difference was obvious and disgraceful.

I don't think there's enough leadership on this team among the players. It's time for the guys to start getting pissed at themselves and each other for their poor play and to start pushing each other to perform.

We have the right coach. We have the right fans. We have the right facility. It must be the players and they must do better.

Andrew - how is good ol' Cincy a better town? 55K for the Bengals and the Reds don't sell out even when they are winning. How is your city any better than ours? If I recall correctly, Cincy is a fair-weather city to - when a team wins, people are interested and go. When the Reds went 15 years without winning, Cinergy and GABP weren't sold out each night with your "real" fans.
As for the Jackets, do you think the guys sometimes stand around because they have no faith in Mason? They don't stand around for Garon. Would you put your heart and soul into working your @#$ off if you knew you wouldn't win? If you say yes - you are only fooling yourself. You may once or twice, but after multiple failures, human tendency is to put less effort into those things that do not bear fruit.

Isn't the Bengals game blacked out this Sunday? Can't even watch the football game in your own town because you can't get people out to the stadium. Now THAT's what I call embarassing. LOL
