December headlines...."Havlat out for 8 weeks...with a..."(fill in the blank)

The Evander Kane deal sounds good to me, but then in two years we are struggling with the cap again, and 7 or 8 superstars....

we need good grinders, we already have the goal scorers!!

Havlat - Yes at a short term deal.

Bulin - No.

Chelios - Yes....off the ice but not on.

Heatley - Yes but only if Havlat signs elsewhere, Versteeg gets stolen as a RFA and Campbell's contract goes to Ottawa. That's a lot of ifs. You'd also need to add another defenseman that moves the puck quick and can play the point on the PP unless Keith gets volunteered for that and then gets more accurate with his shot.

Dale has a lot to do.

I'm confident Havlat will be back, he has made it abundantly clear he wants to stay in Chicago and he knows like all Hawks fans know the Hawks will have a cap problem soon and he will have to sign at a discount. I'm guessing a 5-year 22.5 million dollar contract with a NTC/NMC.
"commit to the indian head' just isnt some slogan.
The only player I dont see back is Khabibulin, I'm sure he will get offers from the KHL that are more then what NHL teams are willing to offer.
I also wouldnt be shocked if Tallon makes a deal for Danny Heatley but of course any deal involving Heatley would see Campbell + picks and prospects going to Ottawa.
As it stands now the Hawks have about 22 mil in cap space to get things done.
Chelios - Yea right, maybe at league minimum. If the Hawks did sign him it would only be to appease the bandwagon fans and to add some veteran influence in the locker room.
Whats next Jermey Roenick?
Nick, the Hawks have to be very careful about who they sign for locker room influence. We have a 21 year old captain, and there are veterans out there who would have a problem with that.

The team that just made it to the conference finals clearly had speed, skill, and a lot of chemistry to make it that far, as young as they are.

Making lots of changes, as some suggest, is a pretty risky move.

Havlat may say the Hawks are the only team he's interested in but if he doesn't get the terms for a new deal he likes all the twittering in the world isn't going to get it done...Did I just say Twittering? l-o-l
The Hawks and Havlat have some genuine differing interest, not so much money as term.

With Marty's injury hx and his concussion, there could be a serious limitation on his durability. To me, the concussion is the more serious question. Another hit like that could force him to retire, or at least spend quite a while on the injured list.

He naturally wants a longer term deal, but that may not fit with the Hawks.

I'd love to see him back but it's understandable if they can't reach agreement. It is a business.
