Chicago Blackhawks hopping mad about hit on Martin Havlat

Hockey players rarely come right out and say they're going to hammer an opponent, especially if it's in retribution for something done to one of their teammates.

What's really sad is that the consensus from everyone but the Hawks is that the hit was clean. Kronwall never left his feet and made clean shoulder contact. Not his fault Havlat broke the first rule of hockey and kept his head down. Besides,you take away hits when the puck is simply at someones feet and you'll be calling interference everytime a puck is dumped along the boards.

The Blackhawks should definitely take every clean hit that is out there because the one they are crying about was also a clean hit. You can run the replay over and over and he shouldn't have even been penalized let alone given a game misconduct. If the shoe was on the other foot, your talk would be different.

You can also play back the comments made on Versus by hockey people who know the game. If the shoe was on the other foot, all of the talk would be quite different.

It's dirty, and it's a shame. And stupid. Despite the fact Kromwell is a goon and his skill level is about 1/100th of Havlat's, the penalty may have cost the Red Wings the game. Hopefully Havlat gets back soon and makes it hurt even more to the Red Wings.

First off Campbell in your own statement you reveal something all Wings fans know about you. "I thought". That's one of your weaknesses on the ice. You think too much. That's why you're struggling. Secondly, the entire hockyworld( outside of your dressing room and only about a 'half' of your fans) have already debunked your "Thoughts" and what you thought happened.
Third. You have neither half the skill nor the guts that Kronwall has as a defenseman.
Add it all together and it just makes you look like a foolish whiner. Go ahead Hawks! Show the Wings how tough you are just like the Ducks did! The toughest, dirtiest team in hockey right now. The ones sitting on the beach right now.

If Havlat is carried off on a stretcher or - worse - paralyzed by Kronwall's savagery, we're talking a very different story here - dangerously violent, even by NHL's caveman standards. C'mon meatheads! Rough, aggressive play is one thing, but blindsiding somebody to the point of unconsciousness goes waaay too far. If this happens in the NFL, with linebacker vs. quarterback, the linebacker is suspended without question ... these are people, not props. That is something that the Hawks need to watch out for. In their first foray into vengeance (right after the hit), they durn near stepped on Havlat and kept the trainer from getting to him. Keep looking to achieve retribution, and you'll be in the box praying to stay for a full two minutes

Jeff, the only reason that Havlat was hit as badly as he was was because he kept his head down. He saw the hit coming (looking up twice) and even the Hawks on the bench were yelling "heads up." The Stuart hit on Umberger in the Columbus series is a good parallel. Stuart knocked Umberger for a loop, but even Umberger said it was a clean hit and that he just had his head down when he shouldn't have.

Either way, no points came of it. Of course the Hawks did lose one of their best and the Wings lost one of their most expendable. If there was any justice, the refs would have let Buff or Eager pound Kronwall, given 5 minute majors, and then gotten on with things.

Wow. You can watch closely enough to see Kronwall smiling, but not closely enough to see that at the point of contact, Kronwalls feet are on the ice and his shoulder is what makes contact. I bet you didn't really see that smile, didja?:-)
