Dec 10, 2011 Full story: SLAM! Sports 13

The Canadiens GM is either desperate or on thin ice after acquiring defenceman Tomas Kaberle and his $4.25-million cap hit for two more seasons from the Hurricanes on Friday in exchange for blueliner Jaroslav Spacek, a potential unrestricted free agent next July.

As a Leafs fan, seeing my boy Kabbie in a Habs uniform really hurts. :(

Well, he was great for us for many years. Perhaps the Buds got rid of him at the right time. I'm just glad we got a return for him as I heard he wasn't doing so well in Carolina either.

That wasn't because we got rid of Kabbie though. We rode a hot goalie (Reimer) and in all honesty if we didn't have such a douche bag as a coach then we would've gotten at least closer to the playoffs. They had him up earlier during last season around New Year's and they were winning with him. Then they sent him down.

As for the Habs, not bashing at all but if they continue to play as they have been I wouldn't be surprised to see Gautier gone by the end of the year. The problems for the team sound as if it was more then the coach. If all else fails at least you guys have your first rounder.

I think the leafs made a good trade in getting rid of kaberle. He is too light on the puck in his own end. easy to push off of the puck and he wont shoot. what did the leafs get for him ? Coburne and a first round pick ? I think they did good. The habs were shutout tonight,so they have more problems than kaberle. they just cant score on a consistant basis. Yes gauthier will probably be gone soon or at the end of the season for sure.

This is the worst it has been in the last 10 years. The mistakes of the past three years made by Gainey and Gauthier by signing Gomez, Gionta and Cammillerri as the core of the team who each measure the length of a ruler compared to the average height in the NHL. Those contracts are now taking their toll because the team cannot make any moves. Add the Markov 17+ Million. Its a disaster. Gauthier will be gone sooner than later.

Well, when I watched Kabbie it was always him that was the one responsible with the puck, but he can be a bit of a push over and yeah...he can be a bit predictable at times too. Yes, we did get at least Coburn for him, and I think cause the Bruins won the cup we also got a conditional draft pick from them as well. From what I know of Coburn, he has been good for the Marlies this year and when he was called up earlier on he had a couple of goals. It's funny, cause aside from the Kessel trade, Burke's trades have been the ones that have been working out..and yet most his free agent signings have been the ones that haven't.

I don't see Gautier being the GM till the end of the season. If it took you that shortly to fire Martin then after making the playoffs a bunch of times then he won't be around by the end of the year. The Habs are not a complacent franchise.

Cammilerri isn't a bad player. He always seemed to turn it up for you in the post season. If you can get there this year I wouldn't be surprised to see him do it again. Gomez on the other hand, you can blame Sather for giving him that contract, and your GM (can't remember if it was Gainey or Gautier who traded for him) for trading for him. I bet he has a no movement clause in his contract- or else why isn't he with the Bulldogs? Although, if Markov is on the IR and out indefinitely he won't count towards your cap at least. I know that he was close to returning and then they said he'd be out another month.
