The Brown hit on Hudler was worse than it should have been because Hudler was focused on the action in front of him; he wasn't minding his surroundings and didn't notice Brown skating up on him. It looked like Brown intended to check Hudler while he had the puck, but when he passed it, Brown thought "well, I'm already heading in that direction..." True, it was a scary moment, but forehead wounds always look worse than they actually are. Proof? Hudler got stitched up and came back out. No concussion, no eye damage. If you watch it in slomo, it looks like a clean hit - just a tad late.
With regard to the Getzlaf vs. Jumbo Joe fight, that was just slop over from the previous game. Getzy was brave to take on the bigger Joe. What's surprising is that Joe didn't incurr an additional penalty for having his sweater tie-downs undone. |
