We need to get the cash in order to keep the CBJ. They are great for our downtown area! Why not snatch some of the incoming casino revenues??? It's one of the few good options for a family after 6pm downtown. There will be massive losses to several establishments downtown and likely even more empty buildings if we don't get this thing figured out. It would be a true shame to see the CBJ go when they have finally turned the franchise around by bringing in the likes of Scott Howson and Coach Hitchcock.

I was wondering about attendance as I thought most games were sold out...guess I was wrong.
Here is a link showing attendance (hoping links work here)
I would think with Hitchcock, things would be getting better. I know I have been watching more lately!

Just doing some quick math..... it seems to me that lowering the rent to even $2 million a year would still leave them $9 million in the red. What's the real reason for the Jackets not being profitable?????$5 million in rent per year doesn't sound that outrageous to me.

absolutly NO, to using public money to prop up the blue jackets! What the H____!. Pay to play, baby. There is no FREE ride. Some business plan. who is losing $12 million, the tax payers? No, the investers are, and they want to bill tax payers, think again. Go ahead and try to move, if you think you can find tax payers willing to give up that kind of money, let me know, I've got some low land property they might be interested in.

Actually, we need to keep them around for those of us who prefer professional sports to playground football. I'd much rather see you leave than the Jackets.

How much rent will they get if they leave. Wouldn't they rather take less in rent, knowing the team would stay for many more years?

"Some of the options include using public money without a general tax increase."

Can someone explain just what this means? Kinda sounds like we should give up something for the Blue Jackets.

Lets see, we could give some from the Poice and Fire Department. Or how about this, we dont plow the snow this winter.

Sounds like tha Blue Jackets has entered into a business deal with Nationwide and cannot pay their bills. If I don't pay my bills should I expect the taxpayers to pitch in a few million??????

Let them leave. Mediocre hockey draws nothing but the hopes and dreams of fans who will never experience championship hockey. OSU owns Columbus. I would even bet the OSU Hockey team would give the CBJ a good game

And Hitch was run out of Philly. We just got their hand-me-down for some great, mediocre hockey!

If the problem is with the lease to Nationwide then the Jackets need to renegotiate the lease. I have read how they don't get and parking or vending revenue from the games, if they do it's small, b/c the arena is privately owned. This is why public money is an option. Get the arena away from corporate fat cats and then not only the county/city can make cash off it but the Jackets will be in a better situation. If Nationwide the company won't redo the lease THEN threaten to leave, how much revenue does an empty arena bring in?

Why are jack rabbits from Georgia and Michigan on this board talking nonsense about letting the Jackets leave? Go spit your venom at some of your crappy teams and let Ohio worry about keeping the Hockey team.

Why go public with this whining? If your business plan doesn't work - re-do the plan. Negotiate with your landlord, cut back on over head expenses, get creative. Tax payers should not bear the burden of the lack of financial management and planning. How did they suddenly figure out they were $12 million in the hole, what was their original business model and how have current conditions changed that. Look inside before you go crying for taxpayers help. Throwing tax payer money will not make them more profitable, just allow them to keep their business model that doesn't work. Come on CBJ management and owners - step up first before you come crying to the taxpayer

I'm trying to figure out how CBJ is supposed to MAKE money there. So you're saying that they pay to play there and don't get anything off parking or vending? Shouldn't it be the other way around somehow? I wouldn't blame them for leaving. I'm not a huge hockey fan but I see they do for that district. If they leave, the area will die. Corporate greed is the problem, I don't think public money is the answer.

Not surprising! Everything here always falls apart! The Centrum(skating rink) Columbus 500. Minor league basketball, City Center...blah blah blah...bottom line is, if it's not Ohio State Buckeyes related it won't last!! History has proven this over and over. That is why we will NEVER have pro basketball or baseball or football! Heaven forbid if another sports team takes away money from the Buckeyes! Thats the only reason we ended up with pro hockey. It won't hurt OSU!!! Never get attached to anything in Columbus because it won't last!!!!!

Columbus does not have anything now except the blue jackets and OSU football. No pro football teams like Cincinatti and Cleveland. No pro baseball teams like Cincy and Cleveland. Columbus does need something for the people. I am not saying that Columbus should give up money for them. There must be a better way. Mayor Coleman needs to get something in Columbus. I am not sure that a new casino will do it because where they are going to build the casino.

AHHH! Maybe this is the new plan... Get rid of the Blue Jackets so they can turn that building into a CASINO!!!!!!!!! I get it now! This makes perfect sense!!!!! This city is too transparent!! Wonder who's getting the "payola" for this?

Quit charging $8.50 for a beer! I quit buying beers down there because of the outrageous prices. Moe's is cheaper.

I can say that the arena (and I assume the team) have really vitalized the area.

That being said, they've sucked. They've made it to the playoffs once? Besides ticket costs, you can walk out the door without dropping $20/person on food or drinks. A coke shouldn't cost $4. If they can't make it while gouging the hell out of their audience, maybe it's time for them to go.
