I see the week 1 Power Rankings by National Football Post have the GREEN BAY PACKERS ranked number one! It seems nearly universal.

For a team that didn't win even one playoff game last year? LOL

The amazing thing was that they only placed 11 teams above the Bears. Why should ANY playoff team be placed below the Bears? Oh well, they have all season to make corrections. Then the Bears will be ranked much lower.

Unfortunately you will see a repeat of last year a bad pass defense again will ruin green bays chance of reaching the super bowl.
you heard it here as much as i love the pack i am a realist.
As you saw last year towards the end of the season , teams finally figured out how to keep the offense off the field long enough to score enough points against our horrible pass Defense (watch the tapes of KC Chiefs and of course the Giants).
You cannot rely on the offense only to win games.
Management Must make moves to bolster the pass D by the latest the mid way point of the season or else last year will be repeated.Woodson will not last the season he's getting old.Bush has improved but not enough, shields has injury problems. We need guys like Nick Collins(remember how he played in the Super Bowl). Unfortunately he became injured and is gone but his talent level was superb.Tramon Williams is pretty much the man that can do the job but he cannot do it all by himself.
On another note -
Why did the Pack keep Marshall Newhouse??Teams ran thru him last year like he wasnt there.Do you think this year he will be any better??I doubt it.My prediction- pack will go to the playoffs but will not reach the Super Bowl.San Fran or the Giants will win it this year.Management- are you listening??!!!!!

The two teams that were in the Super Bowl last season had the 25th and 31st ranked defenses in the NFL. I know many people think that defense wins Championships. I've watched the NFL for decades. That certainly WAS true for a very long time. However, after decades of the NFL doing everything in it's power to handcuff defenses and raise scoring, it simply isn't true anymore. If the Packers offense hadn't had an off game, it very well could have been the 31st and 32nd ranked defenses in the Super Bowl. The Packers relied on the offense for 15 wins last year. That's more wins than the Packers had in the regular season and playoffs combined the year before! A team can rely on offense. Obviously, the more a defense can contribute, the better, but a team doesn't need both offense and defense to be near the top of the NFL. The Packers signed a lot of defensive players and brought in several defensive FAs. How much more can be done to improve? And make no mistake, even if there is no improvement to the defense, the Packers may win a lot of games. A slight improvement may make the Packers unbeatable.

As for your predictions, remember how the Giants needed to beat the Cowboys twice last season in order to simply make the playoffs? Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants finish 3rd in their division. The 49ers are a decent pick, in part, because they are in an extremely weak division and therefore are almost a lock to make the playoffs and probably will have a good record to boot. However, the same could be said of the Patriots who are aided by the NFL's easiest schedule. The point is that it is meaningless to make picks now. Players WILL get injured, rosters will change and players will develop over the course of the season. A lot will happen between now and February.

GBP see what i mean about the Pass D san fran shredded them and imagine if Randy Moss got the ball more the score would have been a lot higher.Pack got lucky he wasnt used much. This team needs help as stated before and i will stick by my analysis.I wish i am wrong but i dont think i am. I love green bay and it hurt to watch san fran go thru them like swiss chesse passing.Lets just hope management can pull rabbits out of a hat and do something or else here we go again - no SB!!!!

I think you are overreacting. We all know the defense has room for improvement. So does the offense. Our running game was Cedric Benson for a total of 18 yards. Aaron Rodgers can't continue to be the leading rusher! The Packers had 10 penalties. Passes were dropped again. Yet the Packers were within a single score at the end of the game against a very good team. This was the first game played with replacemenet refs. I'm not blaming the refs, but it's hard to say how a game changes IF there are good refs. And if Randy Moss is THE difference for the 49ers this season, I think they are in trouble. I think the 49ers probably could have beaten the Packers at the end of last season. They added Manningham and Moss and barely hold on to win the first game of the season. Honestly, I see no improvement to the 49ers with Moss and Manningham. With the Packers changes on defense at least we can expect some improvement. It isn't who wins the first time, it's who wins the last time. If you don't believe me, ask the Giants about last season. If you remember, the Packer beat the Giants last season. It was the second time the teams played that really counted. If the Packers lose to the 49ers in the playoffs, I'll panic then. The Packers are a team implementing many young players into their defense. Losing to one of the best teams in the NFL in week one is no big deal. There will be many changes to every team between now and February.

BTW the 49ers defense gave up more passing yards than the Packers. Right now the Packers pass defense is ranked higher than the 49ers! Alex Smith passed for a paltry 211 yards! If you really want to criticize the Packers defense, it would make more sense to criticize the run defense.

If the packers didn't have the replacement refs they would be minus a touch down. Packers got beat in all aspects of the game all day long. I'm not saying they will not regroup and become the team they have been, but yesterday wasn't a close game and would have been a lot worse with out those refs.

Thats because they ran the ball at will.

They kicked our butts. They did us a favor by abandoning their game plan when they got up 3 scores. The refs gave us a free TD. I'm beginning to think Capers isn't such a genius after all--nor is draft genius Thompson. When we don't generate a sizable turnover differential, our D is still pretty bad. Nick Perry got exposed in coverage. Morgan Burnett can't tackle. Apparently Jarrett Bush is the best we have, despite Shields (what's his deal?) and all the draft picks. Can Devon House right this ship? We need an enforcer out there. Bishop was the closest thing we had. Thursday will be interesting, because SF still looked pretty pedestrian on offense. If our D really gets lit up by Chicago, it could be a long season.
