Ever since Peyton Manning shredded the Baltimore Ravens' defense for seven touchdowns on opening night, there was little question as to who was the front-runner for the NFL 's MVP award for 2013.

One game doesn't make an MVP. An MVP is a player the team can't live without. Denver even with Peyton hasn't gotten past where Tebow took them so he by definition can't be MVP. Peyton has big numbers but he is all flash because he has lost to every team with a winning record they have played but one. How can a QB be an MVP if he can't beat any of the winning teams he plays against? If the writers give him the award just for big numbers yet loses to winning teams, what does that tell you about the award. It's worthless. MVP should go to a leader who over achieves and beats teams with winning record that they shouldn't. Peyton does it backwards. He loses to teams he should beat, San Diego, Indy, New England and gets a pass because he has big numbers. His loss to New England was Denvers biggest in history but the writers overlook quality for quantity. Any GM would rather have a QB of quality (wins) over one of quantity (yards and TDs). He will probably have big numbers in the playoffs too but will still lose on the field because of his interceptions at clutch times on the field, as he has throughout his career. And that's where the award should be won, on the field with wins against better teams, not just big numbers against the dreggs of the league.
