Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Wallace Situation Requires an Old Approach

Jul 29, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: BleacherReport

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been here before. Mike Wallace isn't the first high-profile Steeler to hold out for a new contract and place his desire for money ahead of the best interests of his teammates.

t some point, you just should respect the players and what they have to offer. It does no one any good to cut off a person at the knees just to flex your muscles and the Steelers always thumb their noses at the needs of some of their very good players. Yes, it's business but it's also a love of the game and believe it or not, sometimes the players are right. We always get mad and blame the players (Beecher Report) for trying to negotiate for themselves when maybe, just MAYBE it's the other way around. I'm for fairness and I LOVE the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Wallace should pay closer attention to the play, attitude, and actions of fellow steelers reciever Antonio Brown to see how you get what he needs from the Steelers, a long term contract.

I guess based on what I'm seeing from the Steelers with signing Brown to the new contract and how little cap space they have, they've made their choice. Look for them to continue using the smoke and mirrors approach with Wallace and drive the market price up on him. The end of the day with what he's seeking in a contract they'll be fortunate to get much more than a 3rd round pick for him. I'd look for the Vikings or the Browns to make a play at him.

The Vikings have Jerome Simpson, Percy Harvin, and Kyle Rudolph as viable receivers, but Simpson is on a 3 game suspension, Harvin is not an outside receiver, and Rudolph's underneath skills will only flourish with someone taking the top off the defense. Wallace makes sense to complete the WR corps for the Vikings (the only question is what it will cost them to get him).

I agree with this almost entirely. I believe that there was talk of a 5 year, roughly 50 million $ extension at some point according to sources. It was reported that Wallace referred to "Fitzgerald money". Mike Wallace is not "the GOAT", he isn't Larry Fitzgerald. At this point in his career he really hasn't proven that kind of worth. I hope he comes back because he is talented, but he needs to look at the big picture. He is damaging his career possibilities in my opinion. Negative image of this kind is hard to outrun even with Mike Wallace's speed.

He makes enough money already so he really shouldn't be asking for more. He may be a star but he sure isn't a superstar. He should put the team before the money.
