Multple draft scenarios for the Oakland Raiders

With 25 days left before the NFL Draft , it is time to take a look at what the Oakland Raiders could be planning to do with their five picks.

I must say that I really like Patrick's scenario #2, where he has the Raiders taking Raji, Heyward-Bey, and then Chip Vaughn.

I like scenario 4....beefing up the D and still getting some talent at WR.

I see a lot of mocks with Heyward-Bay going in round 1. If the Raiders trade down and aquire both of Philly's first rounders, then I see them taking Heyward-Bay with the first one and Ron Brace with the second. Chip Vaugh is seeming more like a 3rd rounder, so I say LB Jason Phillips from TCU in round 2 and Vaughn in round 3 then trade for another 3rd rounder and take DE Michael Bennet from Texas A&M.

I've given several scenarios before, but this is my most up to date one.

I've heard many of the "experts" mentioning that Denver would love to draft Raji to anchor and rebuild their defense around. May be another reason Al considers drafting him at #7. If the Raiders can't stop the run again this year, my beer budget is gonna skyrocket!

I've heard that too. I would take Raji at #7 but I still think it would be to our advantage to trade down with Philly for both of their first rounders. I really don't think I'll be disappointed with our draft this year. They will pick whoever they think will help our football team the best. With Rob Ryan gone, I think there is a good chance at us drafting a DT somewhere now. They will know of more sleeper picks than us because they watch film of all the guys. I'm real high on LBs Jason Phillips, Stephen Hodge, and Robert Henson from TCU and DE Michael Bennett from Texas A&M because I watched them play a lot in college plus projected first rounders WR Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech and OT Jason Smith from Baylor, but our scouts may find better players than them.

I like raji going 1st for us but we need to protect russell so get the best OL first then get heyward-bey other wise good job

Agree. This line IS NOT corrected enough yet for Jamarcus. Fix it and fix it right, J-Mac will explode in '09

Scenario with current order and why:

1 Rey Maualuga - Our LB core is the strongest unit, build on it. Morrison is in the last year of his contract. Keep this guy away from san diego.

2 Alex Mack - OL needs him, nobody will take him that early. If so, Duke Robinson is as nasty a guard as it gets.

3 Chip Vaugn - Need a safety, need one now.

4 - Mohamed Massaquoi - He's really the guy you want.

Scenario 2 trade with Philly straight up for picks

1(21) Alex Mack - Yes, they want him that badly.
1(28) Michael Johnson - Superfreak off the edge.

2 Duke Robinson - These things happen when your head coach is an OL coach.

So why you say would I write such an off the wall draft? Because Tank Johnson is coming and Roy Williams is coming. What better than to just let Rey and Roy just injur the hell other teams' RBs? You're asking Massaquoi? Yea Massaquoi is just being ignored, he'll be there, and he'll be good, real good and real cheap. Did I mention that Chad Johnson is about to get a massive payday in 2010? Better have the parts in place to make a run at 85.

I do not agree with any of the scenarios. The Raiders should draft offense in the first two rounds at the very least. I would prefer drafting Offense in the first three rounds (WR, OT and C-order based on availability) and add an experienced Saftey in free agency (L. Milloy).

I really don't know how much Lawyer Milloy has left in the tank. That's why I've been leaning towards signing SS Roy Williams because his ability to play the run well will be a major upgrade on defense and then try Tyvonn Branch at FS. I think they are waiting until after the draft before they sign anybody else just to see who they got and then will go from there as to what other FAs to bring in. I know Tom Cable said that he is big on building teams though the draft. However I still think Tank Johnson and Roy Williams would be a big help to our defense.

The Raiders will have some new faces in the secondary (including Branch). A guy like Milloy can "captain" and make other guys better. I don't believe Roy Williams has that ability.
