<quoted text>First, Al Davis deserves more respect for what he did for the NFL than almost anyone. Second, yes Dave brought 3 SB Championships to the Raiders, but the most recent was a few decades ago. So the game changed and all stuck with his same philosophies. And we hardly were in great position to make the playoffs. If you remember Hue had them playing. Then flamed out towards end of season. I could see why you would think great position. We had been losing for a decade and 8-8 was a step in the right direction. But Al is no longer with us. So ...woulda, coulda, shoulda doesn't do any of us any good. Some think Reggie is messing up the Raiders, Some think he is doing right. I think he is on the right path. It is just not likely to happen as quick as we would like. I have two hopes for the Raiders, first I hope we stay in Oakland. Second I hope we get back to winning and teams not wanting to play us because we are good again.
Jon Gruden really had the Raiders back to being the most feared team in the NFL, but Al Davis couldn't accept the fact that Gruden's way was the way the game was played in that era. I really felt that Al Davis came to his senses when he actually gave Tom Cable a third year, but the respect he regained from me was lost when he fired Cable despite the fact that he got us to the mediocore level. Now I will admit that at the start of the next year I thought Hue Jackson might've been the reason we got better but after Davis passed away, we seemed to start losing it but were still good enough to finish 8-8. I will admit I was sad to see Davis go but was excited at the same time to see what kind of new life there would be for RaiderNation. I think the new regime wants to win but has a different philosophy than Davis did

no diss to you autumn wind, how long have you been here? a few days? but just to let you know, most of these guys you see here on this post have been here for many yrs talking to each other agreeing and disagreeing with all respect for each other. but yes, this new era RAIDERS have brought more people to the forum. but the originals that have been here for years are no bandwagon hoppers?(lol), im one of those you may not like to deal with but i'm cool. but we respect your opinions and enjoy which ever direction you take. stay loyal, stay cool. thats all we want, thats all we ask. if you want i can point out the new, or if you want i can point out the original veterans, whispering, "the cool people"!

Everybody has their different opinions on how things should be done. I think some of the decisions Al Davis made affect the way Reggie McKenzie is having to run things for the moment. However, I think he needs 5 years as GM to prove himself and Allen needs at least 3 years as a head coach.

I can easily see Al Davis and Mark Davis having this conversation
Mark: Dad, you know the NFL is changing
Al: Listen to me son!!! This is MY team and I will run it the way I want to. When it becomes your team, you can do things your way, but as long as I'm alive this is MY TEAM AND I WILL DO THINGS MY WAY.
Mark: Okay dad, I will stay out of your way

(LOL), that was funny T_RAIDER. i was actually picturing al davis (lol).
but to HC's comment, "i think the new regime wants to win but has a different philosophy"
there really is nothing wrong with wanting to win and about the different philosophy. it's more about the patience. T_RAIDER has it right and i believe, that a (gm) needs five and a (hc) three. to me, all i ask is that they compete every season. and for him to please stop talking the g-b-way, and open his heart to the fans so he can bring them together and make them look forward to the future cause he's taking a machine apart that you-we all built, was running "good and okay" to be fair. and when he worked on it, IT GOT WORST! now he's telling you, don't worry, i, i, i will fix it just be patient. i will fix it and it will get better in three or five years okay? just be patient. AAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!!
now, we don't know if it's going to be better? we can assume? we can guess that it will, but there is no proof yet cause he hasn't gone to the auto parts store. he's only gone to the junk yard!(lol). so with good reason he has that old lady believing that her car will run better than ever. the old lady just say's okay!
mean while, you-we who had that car running good-okay, "have no choice" to wait cause he took it apart completely!
WE NEED THE CAR!!!!!!

NOW, he's already worked on it for one year. it took a shhh!, he took it apart again, and now he will go get some new parts for it. at the end of the month. the boss (rm) and the main mechanic (da) are scratching their heads cause now they blew a piston "palmer" and have to replace it. more trouble cause who knows if the replacement part will work better.
all i gotta say is, they better fix my grandmothers car sooner than soon cause if not? this family will go to the judge (m davis) and ask for our own mechanics! to build a real RAIDER machine!

The company i used to work at in Florida, i sat down with our EIG(engineer in charge) and we picked out 230 K worth of computers, servers and software in a day. That was for a 10 M dollar/year company. I can imagine the Raiders make a "wee" bit more money than that!

<quoted text>Hey Real Misterio, as always, I love your optimism brotha, and would love it if you were right about a quick turn-around. Unfortunately, for us and the Raiders, Indy's worst to first scenario was a very different animal. The writer pointed out the differences with their draft picks, cap sit'n, operating deficit, etc, etc. God bless Al Davis, but how sad is it that McKenzie needed to upgrade the Raiders computer system to the tune of $750,000?! McKenzie was a Raider and saw firsthand what "Just win baby" and all of our other slogans used to mean. He's not making these moves to be popular, but to "just start winning again". His job will depend on it. Peace out.

Some great points in there man. Some quality observations. It's easy as a fan to just be a consumer, and shape your opinions with what you hear and are told, it's much more difficult to sift through the ESPN jargon and vitriol and weed out the original truth from the crap.

Some of the facts are true. It is not the entire story and definetely tilts to benefit McKenzie. I can not believe this is accepted as the truth. Are we really suppose to believe that McClain quit the team? I recall him losing part of his job and took it like a man. Then lost his entire job and blew-up. Did he put himself on the suspended list too? Are we to expect a GM's role is intervene with issues like this or do we say Good Job Reggie for ignoring the situation and publicly stating that. Are we to believe that the game passed Al Davis at the beginning of the salary cap era? What about Bruce Allen who was specifically in charge of the salary cap since Al recognized the importance of the position? When Nnamdi's contract self-voided on Al's watch the Raiders were left with $0 dead money. Are we suppose to say Good Job Reggie after renogiating Seymour's contract and leaving $14 million of dead money? Are we suppose to believe that Palmer's cap number this year has nothing to do with restructuring his contract twice, the last time by Reggie? Are we to believe the Raiders quality of draft were poor, since they did not have computers when the rest of the league is picking up their player as they are let go? Are we to say Good Job Reggie for hiring a coach without head coaching experience to take care of all decisions on the field while you were busy revamping the scouting department? Are we to accept that it is not the GMs job to speak with players/agents about contracts after the league season opens (like Lechler and Palmer)? Are we to believe it was all Greg Knapp's fault and RM/DA had nothing to do with it? Are we to believe that a culture change was needed? Are we to believe that drafting natural leaders is a new idea for the Raiders or does anyone recall Al and Cable draft team captains? Are we suppose to believe this is a new era excellence or a new era of excuses? Really?
