Masthay has handle on punting duties while trying to help struggling kicker Crosby
On fourth and 6 late in the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Green Bay punter Tim Masthay stood on his own 45-yard line, took two steps and hit one of the best kicks of his life.

These guys never get the respect they deserve. Masthay has been an outstanding punter for the Packers, and though he's not at the top of the stats for gross average or anything, he always puts the ball right where he needs to. When was the last time he hit a bad one?
I remember when Craig Hentrich became a free agent after the SB XXXI season, and thinking "they gotta do what they need to keep him". Of course they didn't, and he went to the Titans/Oilers and had a fine career there, and the Packers went through an awful lot of punters in the ensuing years trying to replace him.
I suffered through Ray Stachowicz, Bucky Scribner, Paul McJulien, B.J.Sander, Jeremy Kapinos, etc. etc. It's great to have Masthay come on the field and not worry about how he's going to kick. A good punter is a great weapon, and we've got one of the best in my opinion.
(and yes, I was the punter for our team in high school)

I like the fact hes able to hang 38 yard punts and make Hester or whoever fair catch the ball around the 10 or so and not a whole lot of touchbacks,Granted a Packer punter wont rank among the best in Gross as along with others, sees alot of punting situations around mid field or inside and a 35-40 yarder is very effective.
Very unappreciated and a move like Drafting BJ Sander is a killer for sure.Good call and your right!
I wonder how much longer Mason Crosby is going to stick around. To bad we couldn't p/u Longwell and use Crosby for kickoffs or a long FG try at the end of a half or whatever.Longwell is automatic within 40 or so ( Crosby isnt consistent enough, has the leg strength for sure but.)Longwell, i dont think can kick them from much further out and watching his kickoffs land at the 10-15 was kind of sad, but, FG ( especially in the cold at Lambeau and at Playoff time) would be a great p/u.

Mason Crosby will come through his issues by the playoffs.
Masthay fought for his job a few years ago and now is preforming at a hgh level. He has done a great job.
Crosby is our kicker, stand behind him as MM does. MM is a good coach and Crosby is a good kicker. Longwell is rich and retired for get that guy.
