Brett Favre Talked to Greg Jennings Before He Signed With Minnesota Vikings

Mar 19, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: rantsports.com

It's one thing for a popular NFL player to sign with a different team, but sometimes it becomes more difficult when that player jumps to a division rival-which is exactly what Greg Jennings did when he left the Green Bay Packers to join the Minnesota Vikings last week.

<quoted text>Quality of play is down. Teams are not as good. or rather, all the teams are about equal, which is not to say all teams are now elite. It does not take management skills to make it work - it takes a quarterback, usually, and management skills. The QB must at least be elite in the post-season. And in baseball, the big payrolls are not winning, maybe you have a better example? Like, how in basketball, the cap there has led to...utter c(r)ap? Let the yankees/cowboys sign all the guys they want. Cowboys only won when they fleeced the vikings, drafted aikman, and a few other few players THAT WERE DRAFTED. Look, pack is doing great now for quite some time, but it is because they had favre, and now have rodgers. that's it. Reggie White went to the packers BECAUSE THEY HAD BRETT FAVRE. I am a huge reggie white fan; i think most know i love me some DT, lol. Not saying favre would have won it all without great DT play, but he could have maybe just done it with a guy who had one good year at DT. For argument's sake, we'll call that guy by the hypothetical name "raji".
so, in short, your hatred for favre because after he got shown the door in green bay, he spent two years in MN is clouding reality. No rodgers next year means no shot at another packers championship.(unless your back-up is the next tom brady, lol, god, I'll hate you if that's the case ;))
Dont get me wrong,i dont hate Favre for playing in Minn.I called what was going to happen, its all the BSs like offering Det tips of GB play book, showing up after Rodgers was named starter, and demanded his job and he wouldnt play backup and all the BS like having a seperate locker..My whole point is,GB is talking sbout retiring Favre number and Favre is trying to help Minn recruit Jennings, obviously Favre hasnt let it go and hes still trying to stick it to GB and GB is talking about retiring his number?..Ted Thompson Nor Brett Favre are ready to bury the hatchet,Let it go until after TT retires.AGAIN i can care less about Favre helping Minn recruit Jennings from GB,Im sure players recruit other players all the time, its the fact GB is pushing to retire his number in a ceremony when neither TT or BF are not even close to buring the hatchet.Theres no sense to it,Retiring his number is supposed to be a happy occation, not with BF arm twisted behind his back or TT for that matter!

Why would Favre play back-up? Green Bay traded him, correct? who cares if Favre got treated special while he was in GB? did it keep GB from winning the SB? did it bother you as a member of the team?
Look, that stuff gets talked about/tipped by the packers organization to get the fans behind the front office moves. all of it. and it worked! Favre does not need the jersey retirement ceremony, it does not mean anything to his legacy, i would imagine. If the Packers find it useful for increasing the interest in their brand, i am sure they will. But the Packers are not coming off a 6 win or less year, so, really, they do not need it either. might as well wait till whenever rodgers underperforms, gets hurt, or retires. Then, it will make packer fans even more nostalgic (if possible).
Oh, and of course Jennings would ask his friend favre how the vikes are! And I really doubt the Packers were doing anything other than attempting to drive up the price the Vikings would have to pay for an over 30 receiver. Pack need the room to sign Rodgers, for gosh sakes. Rodgers/favre can make whoever the pack draft in rd 2 look elite.(like Jennings, etc)

Again, your missing the point.GB wants to wanted to retire his number and hes helping MInnesota recruit Jennings.OF course GB didnt need Jennings, they are deep and YES, they were driving the price up on Minnesota and thats prob. the only reason why they were going after Jennings.I dont blame Jennings for calling Favre,no one is,point is or my question was, will that effect the ceremony? Easy to understand, straight to the point, nothing more ,nothing less and Im sure GB Will find another WR
Why would Favre play backup? He wouldnt or should have.Point was.Ted Named Rodgers the starter and Favre decided to fly back to GB and demanded his job, which Ted wouldnt give him.Favre didnt want a tryout ect so TT traded him ( as we know).NO WAY IN HELL after Favre played media glory hog for 2 or 3 offseasons about retiring then retires and GB names Rodgers the starter after sitting on the bench for a few years they tell Rodgers sorry Favre is starter again nor should they and BF knew that but wanted to be a prick and stick it to TT,TT proved hes the boss and sent him packing to NY( and GB used that pick and drafted Clay Mathews,SO in essence,GB traded Brett Favre for Aaron Rodgers and a pick ( Clay Mathews)so i guess Ted knows what hes doing.

That is awesome, so I wonder if we won more games than any team since 1994. Do you think we could have accomplished all that winning if there was not salary cap? I doubt we would have been able to pay everyone that was on those great teams we had. We are pretty lucky to have Favre and then continue with Rodgers. So many teams struggle to find a QB and we have had it made for about 20 years and counting now.
I believe the NE Patriots hold that distinction. I'm not sure if I can answer that next one. But we've been blessed at QB, that's for sure.

boy, you get rolling! haha! Yeah, it looks like ted knows what he's doing, because aaron rodgers is elite. If ted ever doesn't have an elite QB, i doubt we see the "claymaker" dragging that defense to the postseason, you know? Looks a bit rough on the other side of the ball atm. So, will the pack have to gut after signing Arod to the big money? How much more is ARod worth than Flacco?

PF..IM hoping Sam SHields improves once again and signs, then they have Shields,Hayward and House making Tramon WIlliams and his 8.5M expendable ( esp cool if TT finds another corner in the draft);Finley should be gone, esp if Quarless plays well and thats 8.5M,,Mason Crosby should be gone ( he sucks,im sure they can find a kicker somewhere) MC makes 2.3M cap number minus what the new Kicker gets,SO that 3 guys at 17M or so w/o getting hammered! Hawk prob gets cut and thats another 5M or so and with the young guys they drafted last year stepping up this year, that can happen as well.( if so,thats 22M) Question is,AR takes up 22M or so( they have 17M or so now, plus AR 9.5M he gets currently so thats 26.-27M)his new deal should go over 20M so not much left this year SO if Clay signs,he prob get this year what he had and they will load it next year while front loading AR so he falls back abit,Thats my best guess, idea ect.For what its worth.Bring back Tampa Bay? Thats interesting and a cool idea!( although im prob. the only person alive who likes the old uniforms they had in the 70s when they started)

For what its worth,i liked the original Seattle Seahawks uni as well over the current ones.
How do you feel about Urlacher and Chicago going their seperate ways?
I wonder what market he will get? Urlacher (according to a Chicago station I was listening to) wanted 5M 2 years 11M total,,Chicago offered 1 yr 2M and that was that.Who knows how accurate that was, but, Urlacher wants 5,Chicago offered 2? I wonder if Chicago called him back and offered 3.5M if BU would sign? Maybe if he cant fine more then3-4 in the open market,i can see him signing in Chicago for a bit less,he should retire a Bear. HOPEFULLY no matter where he signs, when his career is done,he signs a 1 day deal and retires a Bear. What a great LB hes been! A certain 1st ballot HOFer for sure!

My guess is AR gets 22-24M per.GB ( especially if the young guys drafted last year step up!) GB has some players that can be cut to free up the cash.It does look rough, but, Nick Perry,Terrell Manning,Mike Daniels ( all drafted last year) should be healthy going into year 2 and that should help.I doubt the defense will be as bad as last year,it takes a year or 2 for draft picks to improve ect.Desmond Bishop should be ready to go ( that was a killer when the Packers lost him last year) Thats some young guys but its added speed and athleticism that GB needs badly on defense!

It would be interesting to know how many starting QB's the Bears, Vikings and Lions have had since Favre and now Rodgers became the Packers starters. You could even throw in the Bucs who were part of the division for awhile.

I still say Reggie White doesnt get nearly the credit he deserves,White played in GB 93-98 and we made the playoffs every year he was here.
Id love to sign AR,but 20M out of 120M of the cap,,then you throw in Mathews nad his 10M or so,thats 30 of 120M or 25% of the cap,SO we will need to have a few players from every draft to hit the starting lineup. We should be able to free up serious cash after next year,as i pointed out earlier but look at Baltimore ( as was pointed out earlier),,SO while we have the best qb in football,we still may not have a LT to protect him and his career ( ironically enough) may be cut short as we cant afford a good LT ( unless we land a LT and keep him for 4 years, lose him to LA,then draft another one and hit on him as well).Teams have won SB with lesser qb then Rodgers,SO,if his demands get to out of hand,well......
I think signing Reggie White was the key to success those 5 years. He surprised the whole NFL by going to Green Bay where, previously, coaches threatened to send players if they didn't shape up. His signed drew attention to Green Bay and others followed. Of course, it didn't hurt having the 3-time MVP as your QB.

wow, you guys do have some cap room, there. As for my bring back Tampa comment, it was because they are on the worst all-time winning percentage list! was always good to count on the Lions and Tampa for 2 wins, then either the bears or GB would get swept by us, as one was bound to be "rebuilding", with a split with the other - presto! 7-1 in the division! 6-2, worst case ;)

But yeah, loved tampa's jerseys, too. new ones are same junk as everyone else.

yeah, Urlacher has had an amazing career. great player. His options are limited - I think it's probably the Vikings, but only if he's willing to take scraps. Who else plays the tampa 2 for him, you know? It's a shame, really. Cap has made things rather cut-throat. No cap, pretty sure Chicago keeps him a year too long and gets him to retire a bear. real shame.

Reggie White stated the reason he went to green bay was because of favre. to win a championship. don't believe him, if you like.'course he's dead now. He's not gonna change his story, lol. Anyway, I am on record as saying the key to any defense is a penetrating DT. That's Reggie White. If just having Reggie White was enough, then he would have stayed in Philly, but, like I said, he wanted to win and could see the pack had a fairly decent qb. lol. DT play is the key, imo, to making the other team's qb worse than yours. Aikman had his DT (maryland, lett)- favre got his in reggie white. Rodgers has Raji. Raji stunk last year - how did the pack do in the post season?

My self I dont like seeing any good player getting hurt. If the vikes are going to win I like to see them beat the team with their best players on the field. Then no one can give any ifs ands or buts, the best team won.
