AD is a god,
Ponder is not good. He faces 8 or 9 in the box almost every play as QB. If he can't torch defeses with that he should not be starting. Rodgers faces 6 in the box and still makes a killing.

It's what I've been trying to tell everybody. No QB has it easier than Ponder with 9 in the box and play action. Ponder should be top of the league in completion percentage but he struggles.

Can you imagine Rodgers with Peterson in his backfield? He would rarely throw a incompletion.

Seem Spielman is the only one who believes his statement about Ponder and Peterson. I usually defend anything spielman, until this faux pas.

Ponder can run this offense as it's designed. One thing for sure...in MN offensive scheme, Rodgers would be passing a lot less so HIS yardage would be down too. GB's offense is designed for the pass, MN for the rush. To compare the two makes as much sense as as comparing a 4-3 vs 3-4 defense. Is Rodgers better, yes..BUT he has better recievers. I doubt anyone argues that point. The real question....IS our DEFENSE good enough to stop Rodgers?

I agree that Jarius Wright is the 4th man on the depth chart & Jerome Simpson still needs to prove he is worth a roster spot. I agree with him on Cordarrelle Patterson but I think the vikes plans right now for Patterson are simple fast outs like 6 to 8 yards. He stops on a dime so I think they will use that as much as they can. they could have him use his size & speed to push the defender then stop make the catch & see what he can get after it. Back in college they ran that play & his yac was high. simple plays with a high yield. like the writer said I think If Patterson does find a role right away then the offense will fall in place. but if he doesn't then I like the writer don't see them being any better then last year, that's a pretty safe call I think.

Remember this from Michael Lombardi in late October?Ponder has been the king of short tosses this year, completing almost 90 percent of his passes thrown behind the line and almost 65 percent on passes thrown less than 10 yards. But when the Vikings ask Ponder to make plays down the field with his arm, his accuracy and production plummet. Ponder has not even attempted a pass over 30 yards in the air all season . All of this seems so horribly awful, yet please recall another important Jennings observation made recently after tape watching: at this stage of his career, he thrives in short yardage situations, and intermediate routes that allow him to get the ball in space and then create. ESPNís Matt Bowen analyzed his film, and saw that Jennings has his most success on routes that break around 12-15 yards:

Ponder needs to improve his longer throws sure but he has a very good average at 12 to 15 yards & thats Jennings avg. & Patterson was used the same way on 6 to 8 yards outs. these two receivers should be a perfect fit for Ponder's style of play. Well on paper they are lol.

If the recievers' can't get seperation then how the hell is he supposed to get it to them..........even your very feminine A.R. couldn't do the impossible..........

IMO Ponder will be fine this year.Things take time, and he now has faced quite a few defenses.I'm pretty sure the offensive game plans last year were designed for the TE's and slot receiver's.After all we didn't have deep threats.8/9 in the box would work just fine for stopping the run and short passes.Ponder was able to handle the short stuff.
So now, maybe we can go deep,we certainly have better receiver's,and a developing Qb.Harvin did plenty on those short passes and Wright filled in pretty good when we lost Harvin.
So we'll see.
Beating Houston,Chi.,G.B. down the stretch and needing 4 wins to get in and we did it,including Ponder. And all those teams were 10+ wins.
Ponder also didn't call the play, the OC did.Ponder executed the game plan beautifully.
The other win was at the Rams.A team that SF couldn't beat.

I'll also add,I don't think we're elite.
Not yet.
But I'm very excited for this season, for the rookies and Ponder.Even the back up,if needed.
Don't see how a Viking fan couldn't be.
Now if your hoping for Ponder to fail,
well your not really a Viking fan.Are you?

No one knows if this offensive scheme was designed to take advantage of Ponder's ability or whether it hinders his ability. We do know he can throw deep but his velocity is suspect, causing him to make "rainbow" throws. Velocity is the main knock on Ponder. This really shows up when recievers can't get much seperation. When Simpson did get seperation, he dropped the ball 2 outta 3 times. So, new year, new WRs, NO ONE can predict how this year will unfold.

Dang right, I'm excited...well, not so much about the back-up QB, but who knows? We can compete with anybody. Are there holes, yes...but we have improved more than any other team in our division. I don't think any opponent looks at the schedule and goes....OH Goody, Vikings. More like....Oh, oh...crap...we're in for a fight.

Ponder along with every college QB's dilemma is Newton, Luck, RG3, Dalton, Wilson and Kaepernick. From day 1 they're expected to play like they belong. This is year 3 for Ponder, pundits are saying it's his do or die year. I'm expecting 4000 yards, 25 TDs 10 ints from Our franchise QB this year.

Right, we can compete with anybody. Our season rest on how good Ponder or Cassel can be. You don't see much in Cassel, I think Cassel is better than Ponder because of the one season he replaced Brady without missing a step. Then again the KC years showed nothing.

I would think, this is a make-it or break-it season for Ponder....too many Qb's coming up in pro-set offenses, these days.......These payroll's are too strong, to goof around for years.....
