I know I have said about this receiver or that one for the Vikes but I think Austin is the best receiver in this draft, I just didn't think he would be on the board come the Vikes pick. It would be nice to see him in Vikings purple. It would be a defensive coaches nightmare to try & cover Jennings - Austin & Wright who is playing slot who is the wideout, & Austin would take Harvin's place on run plays & kickoffs. Austin really would fill that hole, The only problem is the vikes would have some small receivers. maybe Childs can make a comeback from his injury to give the vikes that needed taller receiver. I think you got to pick Austin if he is still on the board. maybe the vikes can give that 23rd pick along with one of their 4th round picks or more, to make a move & try to get him. I think it would worth giving up a pick or two if it means getting him. What would you try?

If Austin were the final piece I would do it.

If we can get Ryan Swope in the 3rd round we could do some things with him. 4.3 40. Get him in the open field nobody can catch him.

I like Swope he is pretty good. I just dont like his little hands Swope's hand length is only 8 1/8 - this is what they say his weaknesses are & who he compares to - WEAKNESSES: Struggles to break down and redirect rapidly, particularly when asked to plant and burst out of a pivot on underneath routes. Could be more physical against press, as he doesn't always utilize his solid frame to create space like he could. Isn't a real "burner", and relies more on quickness and fakes to create separation vertically. Will sit down and wait for the throw at times rather than drive back to the ball. Doesn't possess a huge "catch radius" arm length 31 3/8inch and isn't a guy you can necessarily just throw it up to and rely on to go get it. COMPARES TO: Brandon Stokley, WR, Denver Broncos - I look at Swope as a bigger, more athletic version of the veteran Stokely, but similar in terms of route-running efficiency, smarts, and craftiness in creating vertical separation. Although there are more athletic, explosive receivers in this year's group, few are more refined and ready to contribute than Swope, who probably falls somewhere between rounds 2 and 4, but is capable of putting up first-round numbers in the right offense. Has been designated by many as a pure "slot" target at the next level, but I see some tools that suggest he could be effective on the outside as well.

If Austin were to be there at 23 I would take him. But I doubt he will be.

I doubt I would move up for him though, the cost is too great. I would rather draft at 23 and move back into the 2nd rd with the other 1st pick then move up to take Austin. I really do not see the value of moving up. There will be a ton of good players in the 2nd and early 3rd rd. I would acquire more picks if I were MN, they could really come away with some talent in this draft with all the picks they have now IMO.

Then again I am an AVG arm chair GM without any scouts or knowledge or running a team or a long term plan :)

Moving up to get Austin is nice in THEORY, but in reality you could get more quality players moving the other way. Remember the Vikings are not a player or 2 away from winning the Super Bowl, they need to replace alot of aging vets in the next few years and this draft will be a huge part of the success in the next 3-4 yrs.

IMO it would make more sense trading back and getting more picks with the Vikings 2nd 'first rd pick' then it would moving up for a Austin.

The only problem with trading back for more draft picks is Cap money something the vikes have very little of. the vikes have 11 draft picks as it is now. We know that Spielman likes to make draft day trades. I can see trading to get Austin or any of other the top players, maybe one of the top CBs, your really not losing that much if the vikes trade their first, fourth, & seventh they would be giving up two of their extra picks that they don't have the money for anyway.

Austin might be the best received in the draft but he's not the last piece of the puzzle. He might be for another team but the Vikes need to fill D lineman, M linebacker, Cornerback 1st. They can pickup Couple of wideout receivers in the 3rd and 4th rounds in a received rich draft. Then pickup another running back that can catch the screen pass out of the backfield. The final piece will be quarterback play. The Honey Badger on the 2nd round would give them the best playmaker in the draft to cover Cruz, Welker, Amendola, and Harvin. Those player will play on teams that will be in the hunt for the Superbowl and those receivers are difference makers. HAGS

If Ponder doesn't get it done this year Vikes need to go all in on a quarterback next year. Don't hold your breath on this because Cassel is a bandaid as a backup and neither one is the franchise QB we need. HAGS
