Would you like to see Derek Anderson in Purple?

I would like to know what you guys would think about the Vikings going after the Browns' Derek Anderson for our QB next year. He is in the last year of his rookie deal, and depending on what the Browns do it would end up costing us anywhere from a first and third round pick (too high in my opinion) to a sixth rounder (right on!) Anyway, he is like third overall in TD passes and has the Browns offense ranked 4th. I know they have better skill players (and o-line?) than the purple, but I have ended up watching some Browns this year and I think we might be better off getting a guy like Anderson instead of a high pick QB next year because 1. He has experience doing the little things like throwing touchdowns and winning games, and 2. It would make me sick to waste a couple more years where our defense should be playoff caliber and then some, only to see us miss out because we are trying to develop a new QB (or still TJ). pat williams is not getting younger, neither is sharper, and winfield probably will ask for a trade if we don't upgrade our offense, so I think that we need to move fast if we are going to take advantage of these guys playing awesome on that side of the ball.

I say go and get him. We don't have time to groom a rookie QB.

i wouldn't care how many draft picks we would have to give up if it meant getting a good qb it could mean a playoff appearance.Let's think here the vikings have been in every game this year and with the defense and running attack we have we could be a fierce offense with a quality quarterback. If we had a qb we would not have lost more than 2 games so far this year and would be right in the playoff hunt.I say gi after mcnabb after the year is over as philly seems to not think he's the answer this year anyways and if we gave them picks then maybe they would accept it and with all the money we have we could bring in a quality WR and bam our offense goes from bottom 5 to top 10 in the league

He's young too, this is only his third year in the leauge, so we would know exactly what we were getting. I want to wait until the end of the year to make sure that he can stay number 1 healthy, and number 2 consistant.

I believe T.Jackson has the tools to be a good QB. But he should have had a couple years under a good VETERAN QB to develop and be evaluated as to his potential. Coach Childress is, so far, NOT head coach material!! He should be gone BEFORE the end of the season, not this "lets wait and see what our record is" crap. If the Vikes lose at home to the Eagles and Childress is still head coach, I will also start to question if owner Wilf knows what HE is doing. As always, just an opinion.

I was talking about Anderson not Jackson...

Just thought I would clarify. If you see my other posts you will see that I am in vehement opposition to Jackson and Childress...

Yes to Anderson, I think that would be an excellent idea. We need an immediate impact player at QB. The Vikings don't have time for a developemental player (like Jackson).

Get a franchise qb in the draft.Build around your franchise qb "always"
You see tonight's game?
Jacksonville is good.
Colts are great.
All because it started with a franchise qb.
not a tackle
or a guard
or another teams 6th rd.pick of a qb who plays well in their system.
nor a receiver
but
a
FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.

That's a great point bulldog, if we draft a QB there won't be anyone to show him the ropes. If this happens (us drafting a 1st/2nd round QB) they would probably go and grab some veteran to try and help him. Anything that I post, and a lot of others as well it seems is done under the assumption that there is going to be a coaching change at the end of this season, so hopefully the there will be some real direction going forward.

No offense Chilldress, but Jacksonville cut their franchise QB like a week before the season started. I have just seen too many number one picks over the last ten years turn out to be busts, and I really don't want to go through that. I have enjoyed watching the bears and lions do it (even the pack spent a first rounder on a QB this decade) and all of those picks have been wasted as those players are either no longer with the team or don't play (Rogers in GB). I would rather use the high number one on a O-lineman, maybe one receiver in 2nd round, use the rest on defense, and upgrade QB and WR position through free agency.

You didn't mention Manning.
How come?

Manning and Palmer are the only one's who have really stood out.

Eli, Brees, Rivers, Alex Smith, David Carr, Vick, Rogers, Leftwich, Leinart, Cutler, etc. have all struggles and range from bad to above average...

Lineman make sure your QB can play like he should. Look at Manning and Brady and look at how often they get sacked and how long they have to throw the ball.

Brady was a 6th rounder. Romo was drafted late, Brad Johnson was like an 11th rounder... Garcia played in the CFL.

Its really a toss up when it comes to the draft. The most stable pick ups are almost always o lineman...

He's a USC guy but Palmer hasn't played well this year.

Cleveland would be stupid to trade Anderson not knowing anything about Quinn.

Favre was traded to G.B. for a 1st.
Seattle got their qb from G.B. for a 1st.
Didn't these guys play in a S.B.
How about Elway and a lot of others.
Come on JD you know you build around your franchise QB.
Bottom line is I'll never be convinced to the contrary.
