Defense early and a round 2 or later qb might be in the cards. Zimmer supposedly needs a rush olb for his system. Probably need a corner and safety as well. I wonder if tthe Wills realize Frazier lost his last season because Spielman cut Winfield and used about that much to sign Freeman.

Kirby Wilson will leave the Steelers and is expected to become the running backs coach on Vikings staff. Good signing The Vikings have a great staff.

Would it benefit Minnesota to draft Carr the qb from Fresno State in Round 1.Championship teams rarely do it without a great qb.I do realize a new coach,( defensive minded coach) new staff, new system ect.

I am doubtful Carr is worth pick 8. I suspect Norv Turner will whisper who he likes to Spielman. Norv is who suggested to Smith San Diego should draft Brees. The offense actually scored better ttan Indianapolis and San francisco, I believe. Defense was horrible. Next qb will fail if we can't stop anyone. 31 in scoring defense, I believe.

Yea you guys were bad, like we were but you still need a good qb to win these days.Who knows maybe you pull a Ted Thompson, trade down to the early teens ( pick 12 for example) and p/u an extra pick if there isnt a guy there you like or trade it down to mid to late 1st and grab a 2nd or 3rd rounder ( depending on how low that trade partner picks)

yeah, I agree. But I trust Norv to tell the Vines if there is one. I like Carr end of round one or later, so maybe trade back up, or take one of the ACL injury quarterbacks and let them learn. Now that we have a guy that knows quarterback prospects, I feel fine with what the brain trust comes up with. Remember, Wilson was a rd1 back and he is not elite. So, you need competent play if you have some other pieces. Kapernick is also not at all elite.

My thought ( again from a Packer fan,so for what its worth) You RARELY find a qb in FAcy..Any qb that has greatness was drafted and developed and signed by their respective team,,Now there have been exceptions like Jay Cutler but he was traded and Cutler is nothing spectacular but look at what he signed for, So my thought is if Minn has the cash, they can take a roll on a few FA defenders and use a high pick on a qb or trade it down to the mid 1st OR Keep Ponder for another year or 2,draft a qb ( who you like the prospect in him) in the later rounds and play Ponder or sign a Matt Flynn type ( although Flynn is pretty damn good as a backup,a nd not starting material) and go that way.I hope TT hits the FA market for a veteran ( leadership) for the LB or secondary spot ( rare for TT but his previous moves worked out pretty well,,,Woodson,Pickett) and he had a few not so well like Brandon Chillar ( injuries but he did play well,so cant blame TT for trying) you can predict injuries.

Carr looked real good in the senior bowl. I seen him play live a few times. Fresno is right down the road from me. He played in a spread offense. The year before He didn't & he was still looked pretty good but not as good when playing in spread style offense & that worries me. Are the Vikes keeping the west coast offense If they are Carr might not fit as good as say someone like the Eagles that play a spread..

Jimmy Garoppolo is a darn good QB, I said it long before this paper. If the Vikes want they could hold off on a QB with their first pick & take Garoppolo with their second or maybe third pick.

Ponder's remaining contract is 2.7M & Cassel's is 3.7 - One Million more. By keeping Cassel over Ponder they would need to pay Ponder the remainder of his contract. This could cost the Vikings a total of 6.4 M Eating up a lot of the Cap. By letting Cassel go it frees up 3.7 M that could be used to sign a quality player. I don't see a need to keep Cassel. He isn't going to turn this team around & the Vikes can use his money for a better player.
