I was thinking more about Gerald Hodges in 2nd or 3rd round. Even without Paterno the Pedophile Protector, Penn State is still Linebacker U.
A late round MLB I like is Kiko Alonzo from Oregon. I remember the Rose Bowl last year when the Ducks beat Stanford. He had a pick that was part instinct and part athleticism. He read the route, jumped it and made a diving catch for the INT. Plus he's 6'4" 245 so he's Urlacher size.
Gonna wait till FA plays out, Vikes have not made any big FA plays recently, but still gotta wait and see. My preliminary instinct says DT or LB if no WR's of worth are there, and one is not signed in FA.

I thought you were going with childress to another site? Topix is only for knowledgeable viking fans.

Does anybody else beside childress think 4.8 without agility Te'o should be the vikings first round pick? I want an athletic defense. That leaves Te'O out.

Lets forget about a linbacker as out first pick in the draft. A receiver is what we need and will be our first pick.

The give away is he still doesn't understand the difference between there, their and they're. Maybe he'll learn that when he starts 9th grade English next year.

First Rule to Remember when making a Mock Draft. Know the projected round of the player your picking. You cant pick a player say in the third round when that player is listed as a first round pick & the same goes when picking your first pick why waste that pick on a player that is projected to go mid second round. It takes a lot of time looking up what round each of the players your picking & what round your placing him in.. You got to give each pick some thought & you never pick a player because you feel that player fits a need without looking up that players projected round .

Slow down there Seabiscuit. Can't even figure out what team needs are until after FA ends. Have no clue which of the FA on the team they will lose or resign - Henderson, Brinkley, Sanford, or Loadholt. Draft priorities will hinge on that. If they don't resign both LBs then that becomes top priority. If the resign one then they will probably look at a later round.
Yeah, this.

Linebacker and guard are two needs that can be met easier in free agency than most positions with success. Now, Ogletree would be a great first round pick, regardless, so I would love the pick. He is a potential urlacher for us. very fast, good coverage, and he's STILL an actual linebacker as opposed to a glorified safety.

Vikes in round 1 need to take the most likely future all-pro player, regardless of position or need, down where they will be drafting, imo. Vaccarro, if by a miracle (or falls within range), Ogletree (ditto), Floyd (not a chance, unless a warren sapp fall happens, lol) one of the two guards might be there, well, you get the idea.

Brinkley will stay the vikings middle linebacker. he may not cover good on passing plays always but he is solid on the running plays & not all bad on passing plays. To bring in rookie MLB with the first pick would hurt the defense more then help it. only way the vikes pick a MLB is if they use a later round pick to bring one in. Its a nice thought picking one in the first round but theres no guarantee that this rookie will cover any better or stop the run any better then brinkley. This isnt fantasy football where every player is a pro player & you know how they play. they are rookies & not predictable, also a MLB isnt the vikings biggest need. Rick Spielmam has said ponder is their man & the focus is on the offense & ponder inproving. Spielman started last year by getting LT kalil. Picking kalil was major for ponder's improvement. Spielman was right - ponder did improve with kalil but ponder still needs a few more weapons. Wright & harvin is a good start but was no help last year, look at the yards each had last season. I mean its sorry. the two of them can't do it alone. The defenses was keying in on the two & they just couldn't get open. For that to happen the vikings has got to get ponder a wideout the can run a clean route & has that quick brust of speed to get open, someone that can pull double coverage & thats what will get wright & harvin open. maybe the vikes wont go with a WR if they see a key CB that still hasn't been picked by the time the vikes pick comes up, they do need someone to fill in for winfield. The backfield play went way down when winfield was hurtso a CB could help but the odds of a top CB being on the board is next to none. Say what you will about me guys & you can kiss Childress butt all you like & tell him his pick was good but I say his picks wasn't thought out. if you are really good friends guys you should be able to tell each other that a MLB isnt the vikings biggest need. & he not feel funny you told him so & he shouldn't be mad that you did Don't be afraid to speak up. whats the worst that can happen your called a troll lol

This area is the teams biggest need.Greenway was drafted in 06 a 7 year vet getting on in years. We have nobody else at LB.
Wr we have Harvin and Wright,a need for more but no impact player will exist at 23.Some will argue Allen, etc but I think we go receiver later, just like getting Childs and wright rd 4 last season. Some say safty,I doubt it,same on the OL.DT,maybe, but it will have to be a lights out guy, plus I think the above 3 are more lights out anyway.
Ladiesssssssssssssssss and Gentlemen,
Childress just set the bar, round 1.
As the Supreme Forum Being,it's my job to out think the think tank.Or at least what's left of it.This was by me on Feb25.
Te'o is the pick.
Now here's a clue on the other 1st and the 2nd rounder.
1st off, they have to be starters.
If it;s a receiver,he'll be the 3rd receiver,and a starter by mid season.
most think we're drafting a DT.I'm not so sure about that. Will he start?
DE????All the DE's are free agents after the season.
I say no DE drafted early.
CB????will he be the slot?????
I have all 3 picks in,i may share that on draft eve.
AS WE ALL KNOW,NOBODY HAS DRAFTED MORE SUCCESSFULLY FOR THE VIKINGS THAN ME,FOR 3 STRAIGHT YEARS.
With the team on the rise and my success at nailing Viking draft picks, everybody needs to hang on my thought sharing.

Oh and 1 note on what I said about the receiver.I believe a receiver can be had later. Is there really that big of a drop off????With that said,
the receiver may be rd 1 or 2 and it might not be.
Regardless,
I have our op 3 selections.
Look for this VALUABLE information on Wed.April 24th.

Or could it be a DE?????
With a cash strapped team,J.Allen could make for an interesting draft day trade.Of Course they would need to draft a suitable replacement. It would add cash though.
HAHAHA
Anyway, while your PONDERING all I said,
I have already analyzed all that was needed to be analyzed
and in fact
have
finalized the Viking picks.

I think Sylvester Williams would look good in purple. I Think it's DT for 25, LB for 23. WR @ 52.

T'eo, Sylvester Williams, Quinton Patton. Then, round 3, Honey Badger if he is still there.(a reach for need.)

Last year,I projected Robert Woods to be the receiver the Vikings would select this year.Nobody had ever mentioned Woods at that time.
That was LAST Year. Now that might be my pick,it might not be.But last year.
When Te'o was caught between a volcano and a Tornado,I projected him to Minn. Now that might be my pick,it might not be.But nobody had the gonads at that time.
I'm projecting right now,or I might not be,that we're trading our 2nd rd pick to either K.C. or Jack for picks,at which time,we'll draft the CB we want, who will still be on the board, negating a need for the 2nd rd selection of same.
All things will be settled on my draft eve Viking selections.

And of course that trade would be for the top of the 3rd rd.
By the way,
J.Allen will be perfect for Te'o and bringing him into the fold.
If he is my selection of course.

Robert Woods was talked about as a top 5 player last year. So, the pick is not in? backing off your own post in your own thread? Hard to project who's gonna be available at 23,25,52. Crap shoot this year.

1)Kevin Minter ILB LSU
2)Manti Te'o ILB Notre Dame
3) Alex Ogletree OLB Georgia all three of them are slow Minter runs a 4.70 40 yard dash & Te'o runs a 4.71 40 & Ogletree runs a 4.68 40 There has been a lot of talk about these guys on how they can be standout players in the NFL but because of their 40 time & missed tackles are an issue with all of them, I think all three have bust potential as well. All three of them had faster guys playing around them in college. I wouldn't say these are not bad picks, anyone of them could very well be one of the vikes first picks. What I do think is the draft is loaded with guys like them that have a problem with sideline-to-sideline speed. I myself would hold off to later rounds & pick someone like Jon Bostic He I think is about the same kind of player as them three & he wouldn't cost you a first round pick.

Some rumor of us trading down for a WR either Austin or Patterson. Really bad idea. Austin will be a good slot player and help our offense but he's not worth what it would take for us to move down to 11 or maybe 15. We would have to give up our second and another pick and he's just not worth it considering this is a deep WR class. Hopkins or Woods would help almost as much and giving up two other potential starters simply weakens the team.

However there are two players that might be worth moving down a bit to get...Sheldon Richardson and Sylvester Williams. If they fall a bit and we only have to move a few spots i.e. 4 or 5 we could give up a third and a fourth and make that move. Trade back with the 25th pick and get a third and move up in the second to take Hopkins, Woods or Hunter and that is a really strong start to the draft.
