Looks like the Packers are going with Tolzien as the backup:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/...

I heard the 49ers really liked him, that he was a hard cut this preseason... and the Packers are paying him third-year money already (someone, can't remember who, wanted to sign him off the Packers' practice squad and the Packers gave him a raise to keep him from leaving). It sounds like Matt Flynn was never an option because of elbow trouble.

Who knows, maybe Tolzien is the future as Rodgers' backup.

Tolzien was pretty solid, nothing spectacular but solid at UW.Yes, he got a nice raise to stay in GB and on the practice squad. Flynn has been cut 3 or 4 times this year ( or traded),so something is up for sure ( in this case an elbow)..

Niners must not have liked him too much, they cut him in favor of McCloud Bethel Thompson.

It is comments like this make you irrelevant and look silly.

Bethal Thompson was released by the vikes when signed Freeman last month.

The 49ers cut Scott Tolzien while trimming down to their 53 man roster before the season and the Packers signed him to their practice squad.

So are saying the 49ers looked into thier majic crystal ball and saw that the vikings would cut MBT weeks and weeks later and decided then that they would like to get rid of Tolzien? I see how YOU might think that.

Maybe you are attempting to remember Bethal Thompson being cut by the 9ers in 2011? Yep after they signed... you guessed it - Scott Tolzien!(exact opposite of what you are saying)

Thanks for playing ‘Why people think you are a silly little monkey’ Once again you are this weeks grand chumpion !!!!

Hooray for Mister Pack!

Cut 3-4 times... Sounds suspiciously like Seneca Wallace. Maybe Tolzien's our guy. ha He's only been cut twice.

Im still trying to fiqure out what the hell is the difference between Wallace and Vince Young? At least Young had legs to scramble but then again,im not judging Wallace on the Monday nighter This game will show us a bit more...Good thing Mathews is coming back in a week or 2 and hopefully Perry is right behind him.

From what I understand, while Wallace didn't show much on Monday (probably had to do with the play calling for him) he's very familiar with the offense, having played under Holmgren in Seattle. The Packers probably figured he was the best chance to bring someone in who wouldn't need much practice to come up to speed, unlike Young.

Tats true but Young had a good amount of camp ( had they kept him) and would have been up to speed at this point anyway...
Like many have mentioned ( including me),,he was off the bench, having not taken a snap in a GB Uni. so next week will be his chance to show a bit more after a week of prep.
If not,im guessing there is always Matt Flynn and his banged up elbow, since hes coming in for a tryout.

Tolzien wasnt bad at all in that dreadfull eagle game. You cannot put the blame on him yeah he had int's but overall he played decent compared to Wallace.
You can blame as i said a million times - the pass d.
Actually the whole defense wasnt good but the pass d was again way to soft giving 5 to 10 yard cushions.Capers strikes again!!
GB is not going to win with backups qb's trying to be like rodgers and play catch up to offset the defense giving up points. Rodgers can light it up scoring 30 at will- these backup QB'S cannot.Matthews was not ready to play that was obvious. His club hand cast was useless. He should have stayed on the sidelines this game.
Moral of the story- this cannot go on with the defense giving up so many yardage.Without rodgers- the GB offense with backups at the helm cannot play the rodgers way.

Tolzien did put together a few very nice drives,A TD,a FG,unf. a Missed FG and a fail opportunety ( on the INT in the endzone) Im not convinced GB lost a TD on the INT but certainly a close range FG try.A very bad call on the Nelson TD that was called Incomplete,as his catch as pretty much the same catch as the catch by Philly's Cooper which ( the ball hit the ground) but was called a TD. As far as final results go,it didnt matter much as Philly put together a 9M drive to end the game,SO ,if that TD was called GB was still down 27-20 and again Philly was able to run the clock out ( with 9M to go and that's inexcusable!)
Tramon Williams and his shitty coverage ( thanks for costing Morgan Burnett a certain INT on the deflected 1st TD gave up) and that terrific coverage on Cooper on the last TD and the momentum killer when you went for the INT and completely whiffed on that 3rd and 10 giving up 21 yards and allowing Philly to get out of the hole and putting deep in their own territory. We can only hope either they change defensive gameplans or fire Capers at seasons end.We can really hope since the Packers need cap space, they cut Williams and free up his huge 8-9M cap number,as he is no way worth the cap space. BEFORE SOMEONE STARTS WHINING, im not blaming the whole defensive laps on Williams or entirely putting the loss on him as its an 11 player defense on the field but T.W. errors week in and week out is very old!

listen to the meat packers and their attempt for knowledge.

Great to see the slack lose two to the NFC, no playoff for this team, now that mrs rogers a weakness, next time she runs out of the pocket the target will be hit the left arm high and often.

Williams just doesnt seem like his head is in the game at times - i dont get what has happened to him. i have been a huge supporter of tramon but lately he is just stinking up the place. How good and talented he was has become a fading memory. I wish i could figure him out- a mystery for sure!!!

Heres to hoping Marshall Newhouse can hold his own with Jason Pierre Paul and do his part to keep the pressure off of Tolzien and if S.T. gets injured on the 1st drive ( like the past 2 weeks of GB qbs) heres to hoping Flynn catches on quick and remembers at least the advanced basics of the game plan.

Well (and normally I'd rather face the opponent at full strength, but these are not normal times) it might not be an issue. He's not even sure if he's going to be playing.
