ITs a biggie for sure! Rodgers shouldnt be to far behind! Although Mathews is eating a lot of cap space,so lets see if Rodgers will still get his 25M or will he get 22M instead ( dont forget, Raji is up and the Packers need at least 5M for draft picks)Unless they wait until next year for Raji since a few vets will be gone anyway

Sounds like a fair contract and he deserves to get paid as one of the best.

Glad he will be with the Packers for many more years. Now it is time for him to step up and be the leader of this defense and stop playing with his hair all time :)

to the days when the players respected the Packer tradition? I see Clay showed up in a sweatshirt and a baseball hat on backwards. This is what we now get from a professional athlete? I think you are correst GBP, Clay only cares about himself and his hair. This is a bad omen for our favorite squad.

5 years at 66M then you add in his current 1 yr 3M or so,the deal amounts to 6 yrs 69M or 11 1/2M per year average ( thats not how the cap works and there is guaranteed money of course but on paper and straight forward info) I read where Clay may make 23M this year,SO, if thats true, its front loaded which is good since GB has 17M plus in space with Rodgers coming up and they brought in NT Steve McLendon ( Pittsburgh Steelers) for a visit and he has a 1.3M tender on him,so he may be cheap to sign and at 6 4 325, its good to see TT signing ( if he does sign) a D lineman who isnt a 295-300 lber. We may have some size and although McLendon numbers werent great, i do wonder if they can sign this kid for a few years,if its insurance in case they dont have cash for Raji come FA time next year

All your salary cap eggs are in too few baskets. TT will only be able to sign chumps to fill in around AR and Gay Matthews.

GOOD LUCK

that's a lot of money for a guy that sits on the bench a bunch of games due to injury. Lots of money for a guy that was on his ass the whole game in the playoffs, and that was by one SF OL player that had an injured arm that he could not use due to extreme pain. But I guess clay stands out in one of the worst defenses in the nfl.

I would like to thank the bears fans for dropping in and congratulating the Packers on a great signing!

Your comments are much appreciated and truly show your knowledge of the game and how to run a football team, quite the arm chair GMs I must say!

Now I know your posts are trying to be negative and a bit rude about the Matthews deal but all read is ‘bla bla bla I am sad that the bears don’t have an elite LB sign.'

I am sure we will hear even more of the same negativity once the Pack and Rodgers agree on a new deal. I look forward to hearing the thoughts from rival fans who have no ELITE LB or QB to sign.

There is a reason why Matthews and Rodgers get new deals and a reason why Urlacher and Cuntler don’t. If you can't figure that out I feel sorry for you.

Here’s to the bears fans – thanks for your support through continuous jealousy and envy :)

I figured you would not comment on the truth, clay Mathews getting over paid. You can't deny that he got exposed in the playoffs so you ingnored it. I think it's great you guys are tying up all the money on two players! Why would I be jealous of one player on a crappy defense when we have 4 or 5 players on defense better than Mathews? Briggs, peppers, Tillman, Melton,Jennings, etc

Hell hath no fury like a bears fan scorned!

If all those players are so good then why do the bears continue to FAIL? If all those are better than our best, why can the Bears not WIN? Why do they have a MANDATE TO CATCH THE PACKERS and close the talent gap?

I hear nothing but misplaced anger from you packluv. I bet you would be happier if the Bears could beat the Packers or even win the division someday. I understand you are upset but please direct that anger at the bears poorly run organization; I didn't make you angry... the bears made you angry by their continual failure after failure.

I wish you better day’s friend, either you learn to deal with your anger like an adult or maybe the new GM and all new coaching staff will put a smile on your face if their baby steps program is a success. Unfortunately I have my doubts on both. I will say a little prayer for you now :) Be well.

Thing is he wants the new deal extended to his old deal,so that helps the Packers cap in a huge way!
5 yrs 66M throw on top of 1 yr 3M ( current deal left)
equals 6 years 69M SO, thats 11.5M per.I was hoping it would come in a bit cheaper somewhere around 10M instead of the 11.5M ( with current deal) or 13M ( just his new deal, not including his current deal) but there is no denying his importance and the fact hes one of the best OLB in football hands down
and
I heard ( who knows how accurate it really is ) but. He could make up to 23M this year,( so its big time front loaded while they have huge cap space) so it shouldnt hit Green Bay to much in the future.

Oh yes, the mighty Bears defense who can set NFL records vs sub 500% teams but cant beat a team with a winning record
You lost Urlacher, thats a biggie. Team captain and emotional leader.
Packluv,,,,you and I will get our way this year, You claim how great Briggs is and i contend he was better because of Urlacher and with he gone ( Urlacher) Briggs wont have as much impact or play quite as good, well, guess we will see who is right.right?

Clay was also playing on one leg with both backups out..I do agree with you in that his hammy problem is a concern and hopefully they fiqure it out and his hammy doesnt give him as much problem in the future and with Perry coming back along with Bishop, that defense will be more solid, they will be fine,,they didnt win back to back division titles and a SB before that from luck and with guys maturing they will be fine.301

yeah your right, all the interceptions and touch downs, and probowls and possible hall of fame was 54 doing the work! Just like your receiving core average guys but because of Rodgers they are good. But than again you are the only one who thinks hawk is good, you guys had to get rid of Woodson to play clay. Can you comment on clays playoff game with a one armed player? Funny how you guys over look that! Lol come on say something?

We didnt have to get rid of Woodson to pay Clay. They cut Woodson because hes past prime and if you didnt notice Woodson hasnt signed anywhere yet,so im guessing GB made the right decision.
Alls i know is Hawks numbers are comparable to Briggs and Briggs had Urlacher doing most of the work and Hawk has a SB ring. Spew all you want, but, Hawk has a ring as a defensive captain and Hawk helped the Packers with the cap as a team player while Briggs cried he wouldnt play in Chicago unless he got a raise.Funny how you overlooked the fact Clay pounded Cutler into the ground 5 times last year and that didnt include the times he knocked him down...Yea Clay with 1 leg lost to a probowl LT with 1 arm,can you comment on how Chicago was 7-1 with their highschool schedule and you choked vs teams with winning records and missed the playoffs? Can you comment on how you were 8-3 and choked the last 5 and missed the playoffs the year before that? While your at it,explain how GB beat Chicago twice in 4 weeks, knocked them out of the SB while winning the SB.Funny how you over look that,,Come on say something?

trying to say that hawk is a better player than 54 or Briggs because they have Super Bowl rings is stupid and is comparing apples to oranges. Urlacher and Briggs are future hall of famers and will be rememberedfor many years to come. They give SB rings to the practice squad players too. The only time I here hawks name mentioned here is that they should trade him and he sucks .i realize how stupid your sure to compare Briggs & to hawk but then you buy novelty stock and think you own the packers. You can't fix stupid. Clay Mathews got the best of cutler because our online sucked, so not much to brag about. They only time I see him doing anything is when he's not covered. Again watch him get killed by sF player with one arm and you see him on his ass. Not one or two plays, all game long.

Trying to push a point when you were proven wrong is stupid.I PROVED my point by stats, facts and fiqures.
As for Mathews, obviously your so jealous you cant stand the fact Chicago has no LB even close to Mathews now and the fact GB has beaten Chicago how many times in a row now? Knocked Chicago from the SB,,Chicago finished 3rd 2 years in a row now.....Hawks name has been mentioned for being cut or traded as they needed cap space, but again, ive posted the numbers and they are simiar and the fact you crow how great Briggs is and Hawk Sucks when i PROVED their numbers are similar and Hawk Captained a Super Bowl team and you still argue about it but then again, how can you expect anything else from a welcher pos who cant even accept fact That Chicago was 10-6 last year 1-5 vs teams with a winning record and had 2 consecutive choke jobs in a row ( year wise)..Actually beat a team with a winning record, make the playoffs then you may have some sort of something to brag about but your making yourself look very stupid arguing a point where you have been proven wrong time and time again, but, then again, welchers dont have much honor do they?
