Should Geno Smith be an Oakland target?

Jan 30, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: ESPN

Earlier Tuesday, I had a Twitter discussion with several readers about the idea of the Oakland Raiders taking West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No.

Why the hell would we waiste our draft on qb..I think t Pryor is the man the kid can play he's young n can run he's like cam newton .yes he's not the best passer but he can work on that let him get his reps n I bet u anything he will start in the 2013 ..we need defense of players bad its bot even funny a slime men or a lb n a corner.then we pick up free agents to fill in the holes...imagine Pryor n McFadden in the power block scheme it well set up the play action n u can hit hawardbay Moore ford Reece n Myer oh n rod streater..

I think Teo will struggle in pass coverage because of his size, bulk, and lack of speed. His mental state is another issue i just don't even want to guess at. How can you have an online GF, and not even skype or facetime once? wtf? Is his that dumb?

Onto this thread, hells no on qb this year. Double hells no on the Air Raid wonder Geno Smith.(look up previous Air Raid QB's!) Yes, we get, and start Palmer for another year or two, then move onto Pryor.

Let Pryor learn, sit, and NOT get injured. Build up the team around him so when he takes over he can just hand the ball off and play good defense.

Thats how you win. Put your guys in a position to win, not "hope" you can win by getting better individual players.

I still want the raiders to trade down so we can get a 2nd!!. I mean theirs still going to be some good defensive players on the board, but for the second round we can draft a CB!! Then 3rd round an OT. I just think thats pretty smart. What would you guys do if it your guys decision?

i say, stay with the top #3 pick. get the best sack artist, next pick get the best (cb) available an (ot) and the rest on late picks just find the diamond in the rough. no (qb's)! we'll just pick someone up along the way.

at first i was thinking to trade down for more picks which is probably the smartest thing to do. but why settle for less? go and get the top pick! feel good about what you get and hope he's not a bust!(lol). i've said it before, mckenzie, d allen, are (D). and therefore, i believe that is what we'll pick first. but, if palmer is the starter, we will need an (ot) to protect those ribs. i personally always prefer veteran (O) or (D) linemen. so if we could find a good veteran (OT)? pick him up through trade or free agency.

Palmer is starter, pryor backup. why waste a pick on a qb, we can pick up a 3rd string in free agency. the only way pryor should start is if we trade palmer for financial/age reasons. If that happens then we may need to pick up a backup qb. But geno Smith isn't the answer.

Keep the #3 pick. Go CB or LB. With all the (supposed) talent in this draft (for lineman & D in general), I wouldn't mind tradin the #3......If the guy Reggie really wants in the 1st round can be had later in the round, then go ahead and trade the #3 and get an extra pick. I don't see getting a lineman in the 1st round. We can get a couple in later rounds and coach them--it's not a skill position.

If we can get the best CB/S/LB in the draft with the 3rd pick--take it.

All u guys don't know shit Palmer is done yes he threw for 4,018 yards this season but he chokes wen we the game is on the line. I was at the game on my bday wen they played the bucks we had a Damn chance but what do u know he three a Damn pick .then our D stops thems n we get the ball again n what do u know he throws another pick its like really bro we traded a first round n a second for that I say go with Pryor our offense has a better chance Palmer don't have that zip no more he's to slow n all he did was force balls in tight windows or over throws our WR's he's not young he doesn't have it he's old I rather have him as the back up n plus with broken ribs he's gonna be fragile so if he is the starter next year he won't last long so why waist time start Pryor ..I know a lot of u guys don't like Pryor as started but watch once he's the starter n starts winning Ur all gonna say we should started him long time ago..Palmer is done football is changing pocket passers are gonna be extinct in a few years these new breed Qb's r the future.....I played the game for many years I understand the game so Pryor is the best fit at qb for us u guys don't realize what he can bring to the table .I rather have a qb that can win games then to have a qb that throws for 4,000 yards and only wins 4 games pathetic he had enough time prove him self he's not Payton or Brady so let's move on

safe bet? i would start with carson palmer unless terrelle pryor out does carson palmer in training camp. i know the future may be with terrelle pryor or another scramblin (qb). but just because a lot of teams choose a micheal vick type (qb) does not mean it necessarily work for your team. this team as of now is built around palmer. i have to say c palmer is a pretty tough guy that can take a hit. they literally have to break his bones for him not to function. yes palmer is a pocket passer but he has the ability to move around the pocket if needed. look at all these scrambling (qb's) new and old that are broken down. kaepernick is new to the game and may soon get broken down. i like that type of (qb) myself i'm not against it. if we do start terrelle pryor over carson palmer, i won't be upset about it, i just feel that carson plmer is still the leading starter makes good reads and just needed better protection. AND, a better team. love my RAIDERS but this team was taken apart and as much as help he needed from the offense, he needed rest from the defense as well. so, a lot of the preasure was on him. and i gotta say, he handled it pretty well for being what? slow?. fragile he won't be. he already came back from a broken leg and fought strong. mistakes he's made and may have lost a game here and there at the end. but how about a little help from the team? no running back, receivers dropping passes or not being open and an (O-line) that needed to protect him more than anything. but he does not need to be a #2 (qb). i'd rather see him traded than to be a backup. if they choose pryor over palmer, than so be it BUT i'll tell you what? dennis allen chose palmer over pryor, why? pryor was not ready! who knows? maybe they brought sparano to help in that pryor situation. if pryor starts, it is what it is. and good luck to us!

U got a point there..I think Palmer does better with the no huddle he is smart n can read defenses,..I think Greg napp fucked the whole team over really zone blocking I noticed riteaway that it ain't for us power blocking is for us cuz once McFadden hits the corner n gets to the second level he's hitting the next gear n he's gone for a big gain or a TD...but I personly like Pryor we all have diffrent opinion but hey let's JUST WIN BABY

I dont think the CB's arent really that good in this draft i mean their good enough to be in the next level but are they good enough to cover megatron, aj green, fitzgerald and so on. what if they turn out to be like dre kirkpatrick from cincy, alot of people thought he was goin to be good with height and athleticism but dont hear about him. I mean who knows they might be good but as of now i dont see any CB's that catch my attention. So i would go with a DE or DT and get a CB later in the draft.

It's all a crap shoot. You have no idea what you are getting when you draft. But you can take calculated risks. Bottom line we have a lot of needs. I just hope the scouts have provided good information to draft the best risk for best talent of most glaring needs. That was a mouthful. all I want for 2013 is improvement and proof we are heading in the right direction.

It seems to me that the highest rated players this year are linemen and there are no standout skill players so solidifying the lines may be the way to go this year. I'm just not that into college football so I don't know that much about anybody coming out.

There just doesn't seem to be a college team that gives you the love and passion for the game like the Oakland Raiders
