To paraphrase- "listening is a skill". The Bears didn't gain a pick. They moved up 5 spots in the third round. Big deal.

reading is also a skill; the bears also receive SF's 5th round pick.

I just read an article on yahoo sports about this and I still dont understand exactly what San Fran did,but I believe they swapped 5th round picks and San Fran had to give up a late round pick.I got on here to see if anyone heard anymore about this, maybe Goddell burnt the tapes on this too!

This is the same storied franchise in NFL history whose so-called genius of the West Coast Offense Bill Walsh promised to pay a bounty to his players to beat the Bears silly.
Desperate moves seem to be typical Left Coast action.

I just checked again,it is just a third round swap,that amounts to a 5 pick difference.Is that a punishment?

Wow can anyone read? The bears receive SF's 5th round pick AND they swap picks in the 3rd round.

Meaning they pick up an additional pick in the 5th round AND they get an earlier pick in the 3rd round.

Oh and I agree with Fan "another pick for the Bears to screw up"

Chicagobears.com :

"As a result of the ruling, the Bears will swap third-round draft picks with the 49ers, moving up five slots to the seventh selection of the third round. According to a chart used by NFL teams that assigns numerical values to each pick in the draft, the move equates to a sixth-round choice. San Francisco will also forfeit its fifth-round pick, but the Bears will not receive that selection."

1st 3 picks better be a halfback, tackle, and qb in no particular order

Owned. They do not receive SF's pick in the 5th round. They are just swapping 3rd rounders. Before you rip on someone, at least know what you are talking about.

SF contacted Briggs' agent Rosenhaus last season while he was still under contract with the Bears. They did not get the Bears permission to do so. SO they lost their 5th round pick and they also have to swap 3rd round picks with the Bears.

My favorite line in this story:

"Moving up five spots could have a significant impact, considering a solid quarterback, running back or receiver could be on the board early in the round."

Fast-forward to the actual pick:

"The Chicago Bears select a third string defensive tackle."
