As I said,..... None of the QBs shot the lights out ----- But none of them looked that bad.

For once, I thought the Bears played an entertaining game !

No, I don't agree with the booing...... He didn't deserve it.

But, it shows that the Boo Birds are also in mid-season form !

<quoted text>Alright, then explain to me, if Rex had nothing to do with it, why we didn't get to a Superbowl before '06 when he started the full season.
In 2001-2003 we had a top 2 defense, and we were actually #1 in 2003. Why didn't we go to the Superbowl then? We actually had a BETTER defense those years, and Rex hadn't even set foot on the field yet. So why didn't we go to the Superbowl then?
Why were we one and done in the playoffs those years, when we made the playoffs anyway...?
Can you explain that to me?
No you can't because you're wrong. Rex helped out big time in getting to the big game. Anyone who thinks a defense can carry an entire team in today's NFL is an idiot. You need some sort of an offense and the stats and the fact that we got there prove that Grossman played a big part in that.
An offensive 30 point average per game didn't help? 23 touchdowns didn't help? Nearly 4,000 total passing yards didn't help? Moving from being ranked 29th in scoring in 2005 when Orton was at the helm to the second highest scoring team in the league in '06 with Rex didnt' help?
You're an idiot if you really believe that.
And on top of it, the last 8 games, our defense didn't even rank in the top 10. They gave up 31 points to the Bucs, a team that hadn't scored a TD in 12 consecutive points, in six minutes. Rex bailed us out of that game throwing for a record 339 yards and 3 TD's. What about the Giants game he bailed our defense out of. And the Rams game? Or the 2nd Lions game?
Do you forget how bad our defense got beat the second half of the year?
Maybe you should check your stats before you make an ass out of yourself like most Rex bashers do.
Let me guess, you're one of those guys who uses the "Rex can't even take an NFL snap" bullshit excuses when he only had one batched snap last season while Orton and Griese combined for nine.
You want to see a guy carried to the playoffs by his defense, go get the tapes and watch Orton in 2005 who threw 9 TD's total in 15 starts. THAT'S being carried.
Do yourself a favor and actually research your claims before you make an ass out of yourself and post B.S.
26.7 ppg 27.2 counting post season
2 words for you. Devin Hester
Not only did he average 2+ ppg he was also an important reason the Bears were able to get the field position for Gould's 40 field goals which also equals 2+ ppg That field position was probably responsible for a few of those offensive TD's for that matter.
Grossman had 3193 yrds not 4000 unless you're counting the post season in which it would be closer at 3784
The offense did help, just not as much as you give them credit for.

Hey it could be worse ! We could be the NY Jets who went 4-12 last year and now think they are going to the super bowl with an old washed up has- been quarterback . Does anyone remember how bad Favre has been the last 2 years ? Who cares where he goes. He will bring a superbowl to NY like Montana brought one to Kansas City a few years ago. Not.
Did you see Favre at his post-practice press conference? Definitely deer in the headlights. It's just starting to hit him what he's walked himself into. I almost feel sorry for the guy.

I'm not giving them full credit, and I don't think they deserve it.

But to say that the defense got them there alone is a moronic statement. Even the '85 Bears defense needed a little help to get going. They gave up an average of 3 TD's per game their first 3 games. Payton and the offense saved them though.

The only defense that literally carried their QB was the 2000 Ravens defense and the 2005 Bears defense with Orton at the helm. And even they couldn't win every game, hence losing the first 4 games.

You will never see one side of the ball carry the other. That's why the Patriots defense couldn't save their offense, and vice versa. You need balance to win.

The offense doesn't deserve all the credit, but neither does the defense. They needed each other. Period.

And yes, for total passing yards, I'm counting the entire season. He had NEARLY 4,000 passing yards, which is exactly what I said. And we averaged nearly 30 points a game on offense. What did I say that was different than what you said?

And Hester's TDs are special teams. They aren't counted into that offensive average in '06. That was our offense alone that averaged nearly 30 points a game.

Grossman had a good college career but had some horrid individual games. He threw way too many interceptions and didn't seem to be mentally tough when the game would go poorly. As a "pro" quarterback, I have seen no improvement. He occasionally makes a really good throw but his mistakes are huge. He doesn't seem to have the self-confidence necessary to be an NFL starter. I don't know what the answer to the quarterback problem is but signing Simms from Tampa Bay would solve nothing. He is another guy that holds the ball too long, makes bad reads, and can't run when it counts. Simms wasn't even the best quarterback on his Texas team for much of the time he was there. Major Applewhite was a far better leader than Simms. I think he is living off his father's reputation as a top quarterback.
The Bears must find a way to score. With Urlacher's arthritic back, it would be foolish to depend on the defense to win the games. However, maybe Lance Briggs can re-create the incredible play he had during the Super Bowl year. Maybe Hester, Forte, Olsen, and players to be named later will help the Bears be competitive this season. Maybe.

We'll see who the A..R..S..E.. is when the Bears go 6-10; if they are lucky.

Wow, way to refute my argument.

All you've done is proven that you don't know what you're talking about and have piss poor comebacks.

You can't reply to my previous post because you know that Grossman damn well had plenty to do with the Bears getting to the Superbowl.

I haven't read all the statements of everyone on here, Yes Hanie did play against 3rd stringers, but he actually was poised in a way that Bears QB's rarely have been over the last few years, and none were in their first year. Maybe it was a fluke, but he deserves credit for a good first outing. I can remember pre season games in the past where I just wanted to thump my head on a wall with our quarterback play all the way through the roster.

Yeah, I kept an eye on Orton in Denver, he had a really good year last year! Don't know why the bottom dropped out this season. That's okay, Donks have Jesus Tebow to save them!!

HAR HAR HAR!!

Rex really returned to form, didn't he? Gets everyone excited, then goes Bad Wrecks on the team & gets benched!! I wonder when his leg will break?
