is Terry Obee still out there? what about Dez White? i think we're just one mediocre to old receiver away ...

Stop kidding us David. It is pretty hard to imagine that Lloyd misunderstood. Grossman has been predetermined to be the Bears starter as long as he is healthy and keeps his QB rating over 50. Our only hope for a winning season is that Rex gets taller, quicker and more consistent in the off season.

Jerry Angelo - is there any way you can stop throwing nickels around like they're man-hole covers and find a way to draft Jake Long? The O-Line was worse last year than the year before, so what do you expect for this year? Take a tip from Jim Finks - the last Bear's GM that knew how to evaluate and draft talent - and build the lines first. Jake Long - find a way.

Of course Grossman is the starter. Why else would you bring him back? To sit on the bench behind Kyle Orton? Get real. Of course the Bears told Lloyd that Grossman is the starter. Everyhody but David Haugh knows that Grossman is the starter. Orton wouldn't even start in the Arena League.

Just what the Bears need. Lloyd is a disgrace to his profession. Lloyd was a cancer with the Redskins. Angelo has no clue.

what a waste of an article.

Look at the Bears roster -- there ARE no secrets!

Well, that's it, ESPN.com is reporting that Bryant Johnson has signed a 1-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Way to let that one slip through your fingers Angelo. Johnson had size and speed and is in the prime of his career. He performed admirably in Arizona for being buried beneath two pro-bowlers (bolden, fitz) and was dying to prove something to a new team. He was an UPGRADE over Berrian and could have been signed to a 1-year deal. The Bears will regret passing on this gentleman, mark my words.

Here is the only genius signing move that Jerry Angelo has made in the front office:

Well it really wouldn't surprise me it it were true. The Bears have a history of being notoriously stupid when it comes to picking a starting quarterback. They'll stick with a dog forever, and they'll stick a winner in the dog house to pine (and ride the pine incidentally) away forever with very little hope of ever actually getting a real shot. And I've seen more than a few cases where a player that Chicago wrote off came back with another team and put a old fashioned PAYBACK whuppin' on them (This particularly fries my grits). I've just got to hope that for ONCE the coaches and management are actually going to keep their word and give the kid an honest shot. I'm gonna say it again HE'S EARNED IT! Orton may not have the kind of flash that gets you magazine covers, but magazines don't win football games. Orton does. In fact he wins two out of every three he starts. That's good enough to put the Bears in the playoffs and that's damned sure good enough for me. Note to management: "Don't renege, give the kid a FAIR and HONEST shot"!

So the top receivers are Brandon Lloyd, Marty Booker and Mark Bradley? You gotta be kidding.

Ron Turner is just stupid enough to have let it slip that Grossman will be the starter. AND, he will be the starter.
I have said it before, if Orton wins the QB competition, the coaches will look like fools and be subjected to questions about why didn't Orton get to start earlier. THEY DO NOT WANT KYLE TO WIN THE JOB, ergo, he won't win the job. My predicition still stands... We will be 1 and 4 or 2 and 5 and then the coaches will make the change to Orton. MARK MY WORDS... Orton will not BE ALLOWED to win the job. Rex will "look better" in camp, "throw the deep ball better" in camp, "know the offense better" in camp, etc., etc. But when the season starts, we will see the same old REX. FInally, it really won't matter who the QB is anyway. With our offense, we could make Elway, Montana, Favre, Brady, et al. look bad! FIRE TURNER NOW! |

Oh, and one more thing. David Haugh is also a idiot. He has no way of knowing if anybody said sometihing to Lloyd or not. He is just making up a pile of c.r.a.p. for his column. He can speculate, wish, hope or whatever, but he really doesn't know what they told Lloyd. It's like the Griese back pedal when he called the plays in the two minute drill and won the game... or did he call tha plays? Who do you trust... Not Lovie, Not Turner and Not Angelo!

On the contrary, all of you. Rex has a one-year deal, 2/3s of which is incentives "if he starts." If he isn't winning the job in preseason, they'll just cut him. In the grand scheme it's not a big gamble. What you and i could do with that money...? ayi...
|
|
|
But only half the million is guaranteed, and he already has that in bonus. So you see, it doesn't cost them anything to cut him.

Yeah, I see your point, since you only have 2 QBs on the current roster, but you guys will draft a QB, and surely you will have 4 in camp one way or another. I mean, this isn't Mike Holmgren. The scheme is not terribly sophisticated. Would you rather pay a prospect to sit on the bench for $500 grand (someone like a Quinn Gray) or Rex Grossman, who you've already given up on?
|
|
|
Meant to add that I hope for Rex's sake this is all academic. He's not a bad guy.

Kudos to FRT. Every word the truth no matter how disappointing. You know I don't think things are really gonna change much as long as the McCaskeys own this team. The only thing they're really deeply committed to is improving the profit margin on the team. They know that they have to field a decent enough team to generate excitement and garner media play, but that's about the extent of their interest. Just to the extent that they can keep the merchandise sales revenues up, the PSL's sold out (at ever increasing prices) and continue to improve their market share from advertising and TV rights. Yep nice tidy little family business. Too bad mom and pop shops don't win championships.

My point, once again, is that there will be other "serviceable" QBs available who aren't rookies if Rex isn't Marino in training camp, and they might be even cheaper than the devil you know -- and how much prep does it take to hand the ball off and run the six pass routes you guys have? In agreement with you, I'd say what actually blows my mind is that a guy like Gus Ferrotte is not on your radar.

Six routes? Wow I didn't know we had that many. That's what we get for using the TBS (Turner B------- System)!
