our qb situation is draft one, v young is a baby. Drafting gabbert or newton would be a mistake because gabbert is the next jamarcus russell and Newton is v young, go with locker, more experience in a pro offense. Mallet is a not very bright so forget him.

Agree on Winfield and Rice. I see Leber and Edwards as great players that can help the team, but honestly, I expect they'll be commodities on the free agent market and will wind up getting overpaid somewhere else. I agree Pat's time is up, but that means they now have **** at nose to fill (along with line backer and DE). Winfield is a great player, but he's not suited to safety (doesn't have the range and has no experience). And who do we have at corner? Cedric Griffin may not be back until after the season has now had both knee's reconstructed. Cook is a rookie who never really showed brilliance but could be servicable. Asher Allen is awefull and so is Lito Sheppard. I'd rather see the Vikes get a legit set of safeties and keep Winfield at corner. Don't forget that Winfield doesn't have many years left in him either so he's on borrowed time as well. With all of these unknowns, it's hard to make ANY predictions for the Vikes next year. That said, how many teams have you seen turn over this much and have immediate success? I'm sure you can name one or two, but from how many? Is it 2 of 10, 20 of 20???
Sorry, don't mean to rain on anyones parade and I bleed purple, but I'm a realist.
so just believe in your team then man! you act like you know whats going to happen. do you realize how much money we have freed up? a lot! i do agree with greenway and rice forsure! obviously! i wouldnt count old pat out yet either. ray edwards and leber are gone. leber because its a easy upgrade. like a fouth or fith rounder. need a o lineman bad. do a little shuffleing and we should be much improved.you crack me up with winfield range and experiance> what do all good corners do when they get a little older? oh yeah move to safety!and usually are some of the best in the leauge for a few years! still have high hopes for cook! was injured all season! looked pretty promising in the pre season before he injured his knee the first time. little more worried about cedric. has much more time to get healthy this go around though! there will be a couple of nasty corners hittin free agency this year too. what about usein winfield as a up in the box nickle hybrid type? he single handedly beat vick and the eagles by letting him play like a safety in the box comming off the edge! must upgrade at safety one way or another though. whatever happens you need to believe in your team. the nagative stuff doesnt help much. you dont even act like a fan. anything can happen!

Shlt, I have no clue what's going to happen and that's why it's hard for me to get to excited yet. Hell, we don't even know if there's going to be a season next year (collective bargaining). Probably unlikely not to be with the money involved, although, there's a lot at stake for both sides and it is possible that one or both sides might think it better to take the hit short term to set themselves up for the long term.

Once I see who were going to have on the roster, I'll feel a lot better. Believe in my team? I bleed purple, haven't missed a game in 20+ years and don't intend to miss one anytime soon. I support my team through think and thin, but that doesn't mean I'm a homer who thinks his team is something that it's not (not calling you a homer either, we're on the same team).

You make a good point on Winfield being a possible option at Safety, I didn't think about the long list of corners that have converted later in their career. Still, you need two good safeties and we have none and a good corner is hard to find. I still think Winfield is more valuable to this team at corner than at safety. And I'm not so sure I agree on Leber. He may not be a super star, but he's a pretty strong third backer. If the price is right. Fat Pat (and I mean that as a compliment) played less than half the snaps this year at nose. He has enough gas in the tank to be a spot player, but he's not a starter anymore.

Absolutely agree on the need for lineman. We're weak on the left side of the o-line and need a center, sully ain't no Birk even when he is healthy. On the D-line, we need to start building depth and NT for sure even if Fat Pat is back next year. And there's a pretty good drop off between Edwards and Robison.

The biggest hire will be the O-line coach. They need to get rid of that stupid zone bocking scheme and get back to man blocking if they want Perterson to run wild again.

Agreed, the o-line is where it start/stop on offense. No qb or running back (save Barry Sanders) will get anywhere without protection and blocking.
They need to recruit the meanest, filthiest, biggest, nastiest parolees that are available. No McKinnie's, we don't need anyone playing 30+lbs over their weight every other year and making excuses.
Get people who can block and protect, watch this offense take off.

he's firing all the white guys, keeping the black guys, and hiring more black guys, if a white coach took over for a black one, then canned the blacks, and kept the whites, and hired more whites, there would be riots in the streets!

Well said Joe. I hope we draft either Mallet of Locker...no Vince. Considering the quality of our division, probably about 2 or 3 years before we can be competitive. Really looking forward to the draft and F/A.
Keep on wishing buddy.......of the 11 teams ahead of the Vikings about 4-5 also would like an upgrade at the QB position. You'd be lucky to grab Adam Webber instead at the 12th spot.

No luck so they should not even dream of spending a first round on Adam Webber but the other glaring holes and pick a QB up in the later rounds......REALISTICAlLY!!!!
