Steve Smith is exactly what the Chargers need and the Chargers are exactly what Steve Smith needs. Smitty is a hall of fame talent stuck in the wrong offense and the wrong quarterback. He's 5'9" so he's not a big target, but once he gets the ball in his hands, he's the best. Think Barry Sanders or Gayle Sayers. As a rookie, he made the Pro Bowl as a returner from a 1-15 team. Get him the ball in the open field and sit back and watch.

Steve Smith is the most competitive person, EVER. He gives 100% every play, every practice. He's 31 and may have lost a little speed, but it's his quickness and his natural talent that allows him to elude tacklers.

He has been in a couple of scrapes with teammates. His competitive nature makes "enemies" on the practice field. When competetive people continuously talk trash, Look Out! He's older and hopefully wiser now. That possibility shouldn't be a deterrent to having him on the team.
