I can see this happening. It puts him closer to his home town. I appreciate his time as a Raider and as an Aggie, but we have greater needs right now and punters are a dime a dozen...many are overlooked and just want a chance because theirs only 32 spots open in the NFL.

it's hard to see a great leave the team. but, he too has been wanting to leave since year, back to al davis. i think we've kept him here by a shoe string and now he gets a choice, and he's taking it.
go marquette king! i say.

It actually does make sense. Lechler is awesome and has been great for us. But fact is we have a young guy in king that is good and won't cost near as much. People forget it's a business. I would like to keep lechler, but financially and his age make it an easy decision.

Lechler IS the best in the league but 3.8 Mil (plus signing bonus) per year is a lot to pay for a punter in my book. King looked real good. Thanks for the years of great kicks, Shane. Good luck in the future.

4 Mil per year will get us a good/great CB....or safety......or whatever we want.

The King guy is unproven, not good. Having said that, in year 2 of House Cleaning, Lecheler's contract will hardly survive. My guess is that if McFadden, Kelly and Palmer were Free Agents, they would not be trying to sign them as well. Easy to see, that as Free Agents sign with other teams, RM will get extra picks next year. He think picks are the cure-all. As far as business, football is a sport first, not a business first. They don't hand out the Lombardi Trophy to the team with the best managed cap and the most picks going into next year's Draft. And there is no direct corelation between cap and picks and Superbowl victories. In fact, it is the opposite. History shows, the teams that spend the most win the most.
