<quoted text>Several good friends are 49er fans. Prior to the game, I told them that neither team NEEDS the win. It would be a nice start for either team and clearly make them an early favorite. The 49ers deserve to be the early favorite based on that performance and their strong finish last season. However, recent seasons show that it isn't how a team plays during the regular season, it's how they play at the end of the season. Personally, I think the Packers SHOULD improve during the season. The 49ers have added Moss and Manningham. I see both of those guys becoming more of a hinderance than an asset by season's end. Alex Smith may surprise me, but if not I think Moss and Manningham start sulking sooner or later.
I can understand your opinion of moss, but manningham has never shown a diva like attitude. I have Ravens # 1 for their performance week 1 and the fact that they beat sf last year and almost made the Super Bowl. Sf is a close #2 IMO. Then 3 Houston, 4 New England, 5 green bay IMO

<quoted text>Some might think that being on a winning team could change that, but he was starting to cop an attitude in New England. If he can get pissy there, he can do the same in San Fran. If Tom Brady couldn't keep him happy, how can Alex Smith?
I think moss wont become a problem for a few reasons. His contract Is incentive based so he wont get much money unless he plays the whole year. He has wants to prove to everyone he can still play. He CHOSE to play in SF unlike oakland, Tennessee, Minnesota. And most of all he wants to win the elusive super bowl.

I'm not accusing Mannigham of being like Randy Moss. However, Eli stopped throwing to Manningham because he was't a reliable route runner. As his number of targets decreased it seemed he was a little less motivated. That is not the kind of receiver that is a good fit with Alex Smith. I think Manningham is not going to be used a lot. It would only be natural for him to feel unutilized. Will he react as severely as Moss? NO! But he reached the point where he only contributed if Eli hit him in stride on the deep ball. What good will that do Alex Smith? I'm not saying Smith can't ever do that, but he certainly can't throw the deep ball like Tom Brady or Eli Manning.

The reason he came back to football was he needed the money, not because he had some huge desire to play for the 49ers. He WANTED to play for the Patriots and wore out his welcome there nonetheless. Perhaps you are right that Moss won't become a problem. I'm just saying that I'll have to see it before I believe it. I will believe his established pattern of behavior until he changes it.

Even though I think Moss and Manningham won't make huge positive contributions, I do believe that the 49ers will be VERY good. I really don't think the 49ers ever needed either one.

I think A Smith knows his way around a locker-room if you know what I mean. He must have some talent other than Quarterbacking because he sucks at that

They needed 2 receivers to fill the void next to Crabtree. I think they just got moss and manningham out of the discount bargain bin lol, because they were right against the salary cap when they signed them. All in all, IMO, I think they were good pickups espically for the low price.

Are you familiar with the saying: "When in Rome do as the Romans do"? Well, Alex Smith is in San Francisco!

The risk is minimal. That's about all I can say for those signings.

Really. How is that enforced? Aren't there any rebels that do it outside that area?

Of course, there are people of every race, religion, and sexual orientation everywhere. But the majority San Francisco's gay population is in the Castro district.

I understood what you were saying. It's just that you made it sound like it doesn't happen anywhere else.

It's only game two, but this win shows how quickly and easily fortunes can change in the NFL. It's a long season. I'm encouraged by the Packers putting pressure on opposing QBs. If they can improve the run defense, they may end the season poised to do something. A decent run game would help the offense. Rodgers hasn't looked like he did last year yet, but I'm willing to give credit to a couple fine defenses. Hopefully, Benson meshes better with the O-line as the season progresses.
Definitely. Shows you're never as bad or as good as you think.

Castro is for the professionals.
If you are trying to beat that door down you need 'training' off-castro
A Smith is the poster-boy for training off-castro

Maybe the Raiders will trade for such a "seasoned" QB?

Alex smith showed again last night that he is more than capable of leading 1 of the most complete offenses in the game. Another 2 td no pick game with great accuracy. All of the haters are still going to hate on him, but thats what happens when your on the best team
